Chapter 45

Anthony enters the living room with Kody. Not sure what to say, he stands there for a minute. "We are trying to keep Melody a secret. It's bad enough that the asshole Alpha is looking for her, if anyone finds out she has the gift to heal the whole werewolf world would be after her."

Laurie sat there dumbfounded. "She has the gift of healing. The blue light makes sense now."

"Her wolf is light silver and glows, you saw it yourselves, she healed Carley."

Kody tells them, "She saved my life when my heart stopped working. I have always had a bad valve they couldn't fix. She fixed it."

"As you see, my mate has been working hard to become a doctor. Yes, she likes to help people but the main reason is so she can use her gift without anyone knowing it. I am not saying you will say anything on purpose, but no one can know about her abilities. The pack doesn't know, only the ones in this room."

Frank looks at Anthony, "Like you said the other night, she is gifted in more ways than we can imagine." Turning to Laurie he takes hold of her hands, "What would you think if we moved to this pack? Help protect Melody and watch our grandpups grow."

"You would leave your pack and come here for her?"

"She saved our daughter's life and gave her back to us. On top of that she has the capability to save so many lives, we owe her our protection and love."

Laurie moves to see the other men in the room. "Would you want us here?"

"I can't picture anything that would make Melody or me happier."

"While she is resting, I need to ask a few questions. I would never push Melody to tell me what happened to her after I left? I know there has to be a reason you don't want Drew to find her. I would think the way her father fought for her he loved her."

Papa Charley scuffed, "He didn't love her. From what I can tell; he kept her to hurt you. When he no longer could hurt you, he hurt her instead."

"Uncle Charley don't go there. Melody doesn't like talking about it or telling others about her past, we should honor her wishes."

"This is different, Anthony, she is her mother. It wasn't right what they did to my Little one and if it was my child, it would make me crazy wondering what happened to her."

"You're telling me it was so bad that you are going to argue over telling me."

Anthony glares at Charley warning him to be quiet. Charley growls at him not agreeing with him. Cameron steps in, "Son, this time your uncle is right. Laurie has the right to know."

Anthony looks defeated. "Tell her."

Charley turns to Laurie his attitude is much calmer. "Your ex-husband threw her in a basement to live. She worked for her food and clothes in between his beating her. He had your son, her brother, do the same thing to her. If you need to see how bad it was there is a file in Anthony's office with a record of all the things he did to put her in the hospital."

"Charley, that is enough let it go." Anthony can see how pale Laurie is getting. "My uncle can't stand them for what they did, he shouldn't of said it like that. Please remember anything that happened to her was Michael's fault, not yours. As for Drew he was her first mate, to make a long story short he lied to her and then wanted to make her his mistress and breeder. He would pick someone else to be his Luna. If she didn't then they were going to put her in a dungeon and make her do it anyway."

"He was her mate and did this to her. You're telling me not one person in that pack tried to help her." Laurie was on the verge of breaking down. Frank pulled her into his arms. "I never knew it was that bad for her. She must of hated me."

Charley seeing how his words upset Laurie, felt like shit. "She didn't hate you at all. There is a song you taught her, Lean on me. Something like that. She said it kept her from losing it. From what I understand she wasn't allowed to sing or play music after you left. When she got a chance she started again, mainly for you. She said she made you a promise and she was going to keep it."

Cameron also felt bad for what was going on, "This is why she doesn't want to talk about it. Nothing can change the past, now we look to the future. With you coming here to be with her and our grandpups it is much brighter for her. We need to get you a house."

Kody who was staying out of things thought of something. "I have been looking for a house, I got the perfect one. For you two not me. It is right over there." They walk to the window to see what he is pointing at. "It's right across the street. On an angle, but you can walk out the door and see each other."

"It is perfect. Don't tell Melody, when we leave to go home, we will pull in the driveway, she will find out then."

"I like that idea, Laurie." Charley for the first time that afternoon had a smile.

Frank went with Cameron and Anthony to set things up with Frank's Alpha. He had to get permission to leave the pack and join Anthony's. "That is settled we should head back to the house Melody is most likely up by now."

Laurie was in the kitchen making dinner when Melody came down. "I am sorry, Mom, you shouldn't have to cook when you're visiting."

"Don't you dare apologize after what you did for Carley. The guys will be here soon how about we set the table."

When they sat down to eat Anthony gave Melody a hug and held the chair for her. "How did you make out with your classes baby?"

"I'm sorry, with everything going on I forgot to talk to you about it. They are working with me, and it will all turn out perfect. The only thing is, we planned on me being off this summer, I have to do my intern two days a week. It is the only way I can graduate on time."

The last two weeks of Laurie and Franks stay came to an end. That morning, they got in the car. "Mom, I am going to miss you. Call me anytime, it will have to do until you can come back here, or we get to go there."

"I will keep in touch I promise. It will all work out."

"Drive safe, bye, Carley." Melody is waving goodbye and half in tears as Frank pulls out of the driveway. Seeing his brake lights on, Melody thinks they forgot something. Then he pulled in the driveway on the opposite side of the street. Her mind goes to, he is coming back to get it. Her eyes get wide as the car stops, shuts off, and they get out.

Laurie yells across the street to her, "We're home."

"You're staying here with me?" The tears stopped and the biggest smile appeared on her face. Seeing Anthony's silly grin, she knew he helped plan this. "You did this for me?"

"It was your mom's and Frank's idea. They didn't want to leave you. It looks like they love you too." Anthony gives her a gentle nudge. "Why don't we go see your mom's new house."

"Do you like our surprise?"

"I couldn't ask for anything better, Mom."

"We haven't moved our stuff in yet, didn't want you to see it and ruin our surprise. The truck with our furniture is at the gate. We are going to be busy for a few hours, unloading and arranging things. If you want, you can sit and watch."

"I will be in the way; Anthony won't let me lift a thing. Why don't I go home and bring my little sister to the house and keep her out of the way."

"That would be a big help." They gave each other a hug as Carley jumped in her arms and they walked across the street.
