Chapter 21

Cameron calls Charley over, "We need to talk."

"You want us to leave?"

"No, I think you need to move to a bigger house, or she has to get a place of her own. We don't have much time to get ready. I would also like to find a housekeeper and nanny to be there to help her. I want her to go to school and become a doctor. It might be the best way to keep her safe. She had a good plan and I want her to finish it."

Charley is thinking, "That is the house I had with my mate. I don't know if I can give it up."

"Not even for little one?" Cameron says.

"Give me a day or two. I might just add a room or two to the place or redo the basement for me and let her have the upstairs."

"I almost forgot. Anthony is coming home tomorrow he is all done Alpha training. I know he would like to see you."

"Where has time gone, he was running around chasing rabbits as a pup and now he is an alpha. Hard to believe. I haven't seen the kid in a while I am looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. Let me get home, I'll see you in the morning." Charley walks in the house to a wonderful smell, "What is that you are cooking? It smells good."

"Stir fry, I am using all the left-over chicken and shrimp and pork with vegetables and a sauce. It will be ready in a couple of minutes."

"I'll set the table for us since you did the cooking. I want to talk to you about the house."

"Dinner is served," Melody yells as she brings it to the table.

"Do you want to still live with me when you have the babies?"

"If you still want me here. I will understand if you don't want to, the babies would most likely bother you. They cry a lot when they are little."

"The babies won't bother me. I like babies wanted a dozen but never in the cards."

"Well you can have two to play with."

"Well Cameron and I have been talking, this house is too small. I can do two things, we can find a bigger place and move, or we can add a few rooms to this place. We could redo the basement for me and give you upstairs."

"This is your house I will go along with whatever you want to do. I could move my music stuff in the basement and give the room to the babies. I don't plan on having anymore after these two. I won't have a mate and not many males want a female with someone else's pups. Honestly, I don't care as long as we are together. Charley, I don't have any family, not blood family. I would like it if the babies could call you grandpop?"

Charley is getting all choked up, "Why would you want an old man like me?"

"Because you are the best man I have ever met. You are a strong, kind, and loving man. One, if I didn't have in my life, I don't know where I would be. No, I don't mean with the running thing, yes you have helped me with that. It's just you have taken the time to let me see I am worth something. I will never be able to thank you enough for that."

"Well, what can I say to that little one? I would be so honored. I never thought I would be a father much less be a grandfather. You have given me back a life that I would never have had. Fate or the moon goddess has brought us together, given each of us what we both needed." The two of them hugged. Then Charley messed up her hair. Charley clears his throat, "You get to bed young lady you are going to need some sleep."

Charley goes to his room, when he lays down, he can't sleep. Memories haunt him, some good, some bad. He thinks of his wife and the way they danced around the house. He dreams of his little girl. He watches her grow up in his dream and her face when she turns around to look at him is Melody's. They are at all the places he had taken her on the way back to the pack. They are happy laughing, then the picture changes, Melody is pregnant. She is getting a nursery together, she is happy. Then blood starts to pour over her and she is screaming. He can't help her. He is just standing there helpless; he closes his eyes, not wanting to watch it anymore. When he looks back it is his wife laying there dead with their baby in her arms, dead. He jumps up and checks on Melody, she is sleeping in her room, safe and sound. "This isn't good I have to pull myself together."

In the morning Charley looks bad, he didn't sleep well at all with his past haunting him. "Good morning, Charley. Breakfast in on the counter see you after school." Then she runs out the door.

Charley prays to the moon goddess, "Please not again. Take care of her, take care of them."

All day long this dream keeps playing over and over again in his head, he can't get away from it. He minds links Cameron, "I need to talk to you. Can I come by and see you?"

"Yes, that will be fine. I wanted you to be here to greet Anthony when he gets here anyway. He should be here in a half hour."

"I'll be there soon." Charley gets his jacket and heads out the door. School will be out shortly so he mind links Melody, "Little one, I had to go to the Alpha's office meet me there."

"I am giving Bethany a piano lesson so I will be there when you are done."

Knocking at the door to Cameron's office, "Come in, Charley. What happened to you? You look like shit. Something most be bothering you, spit it out and let's see if I can help you."

"Yeah, I am having these dreams and they are scaring the hell out of me. I keep seeing Hope dead with my daughter in her arms. Then Hope turns into Melody. Then my daughter grows up to look like Melody and she is covered in blood with a pregnant belly. This is making me crazy."

"I can understand what is going on. Your old fears are coming into play here. You have all the right to be afraid, you think of Melody like she is your daughter. You have to get over this, she is going to need you."

"I know that. I'm just not sure I know how."

"By remembering she is not Hope. Hope was frail, was always so tiny and weak physically. Your baby girl, Jenna was beautiful but she was like her mother so tiny and weak when she was born. She fit in the palm of your hand. Now take a gook look at Melody, she is far from weak. She is strong, look at what she has done, and been through, she is still here." Melody can do this believe in her." Than there is a knock at the door. "Come in."
