Chapter 50
The day before they left for the trip Cameron went to talk to Anthony. "There is someone that needs Melody's special kind of help. He is a friend of mine; I have known him since we were in diapers."
"Wait, I will have Melody come over here to listen to this."
Melody was there soon after. "Hi, Cameron. Anthony said you needed my help."
"A friend of mine on the werewolf council needs help. He is a good man, unfortunately, he has cancer, he's in the last stage. Can you help him being that far along?"
"I treat patients at the hospital a little at a time. This way no one gets that suspicious. Do you think he would come here to let me treat him? He would have to stay a month or so; that way it will not look too out of the ordinary."
"I doubt it. From what I was told he cannot get out of bed. A trip this far would be impossible."
"I'm not sure how that will work. Where is he?"
"He lives in Pennsylvania."
"Dad, he might be your friend but risking Melody's identity is out of the question."
The three of them sat there figuring out a way to help him. "What if you gave him a treatment that makes him well enough for the trip? You could finish the rest of the treatment here." Cameron suggests. "We will be in Pennsy tomorrow. I could ask him to see you."
Anthony shook his head. "I don't want to be negative, but he would have to know Melody has powers for her to help him that much so fast. We would have to trust him with that knowledge."
"I have not seen him in a year, we talk all the time he is a good man, I trust him with my life, then this is her life."
"And my children's lives. Any of them could have her gift, so they would be brought into this mess. The council is nothing to play around with." Anthony was frustrated. "I don't want the council to know about any of this. They have the power to come in here and take her from us."
Cameron turned to Melody. "In the end this is up to you, Melody. Talk to him, then see what you think, both of you talk to him then decide."
"It won't hurt to talk to him then go from there."
"Only if I get to decide, you never think of keeping yourself safe." Anthony sounded disgusted. He did not want to lose his mate.
Melody tilted her head, bit her thumb concentrating on what was on her mind. "We don't necessarily have to tell him I have powers. Not if I can treat him by myself. When I treat my patients, I do it alone so there is no chance of anyone seeing the light. I could do that with him. If we stay an extra day or two, I could add an extra treatment in. That way it won't look so suspicious."
"How can you ask his family to leave him without it sounding suspicious?"
"The same way I do it at the hospital. I tell them when I put the needles in most people jump. That makes the patient jump that could mess with his treatment."
Cameron gets a broad smile. "That makes a lot of sense. I don't think we will have a problem getting her in there alone."
The trip takes even longer than the one to New York. With the number of family members and ten guards they looked like a caravan with four SUVs and three cars. "Alpha Anthony, we are going to have to find something big enough for your family." Kody said as he watched the hassle of everyone trying to find enough seats in the cars.
"That will have to wait until we get back from this trip."
"It would be easier to protect the family if you were together. I know this is a long trip, but stopping overnight is risky. I don't like it; we can't set up good enough security."
