Chapter 18

When we reach the living room the Alpha tells me, "Go try it. I'd like to hear you play. Most of our students don't bother playing it. Sometimes I think I should get rid of it, but my wife put the piano there she played for the pack, and I haven't had the heart to get rid of it."

"If you let me I would play it every day. "I sit on the bench, stretching my fingers on the keyboard. Then I close my eyes, place my fingers on the keys and begin to play. The sound that comes from the piano is strong and enticing it draws all the people in the pack house to hear the sounds that come out from the keys and the movement of my fingers.

The Alpha looks at Charley then elbows. Did you know she could play like that?"

"We have been riding around in the cab of my truck I didn't have a piano for her to play." His answer is filled with sarcasm.

"Her playing is worth training we need to get her a piano teacher."

When I'm done, I smile at the Alpha. "Did I do good enough to play when I get time?"

Charley looks at me, "Little one you never told us you could play like that."

"I didn't think about it, so does that mean I can play?"

"You sure can any time you want." Alpha Cameron says seeming to be proud of me.

"Little one, I think we need to buy you your own and let some professionals hear you."

"I can set that up if you want," Kody joins in. He heard the music and came to listen.

"What do you think?" Charley asks me.

"Do you like to play? And do you want to play for people?" Kody says all enthused with helping me.

"I love to play the piano, the guitar, and the violin. I wanted to play the flute, but mom left before I could learn that one. I still want to be a doctor though. If I can do both, playing for people would be great."

"Why did you learn all the instruments, and didn't you say your mom left when you were ten?"

"That's right Charley. You see my mom said I was a musical prodigy, so I started lessons when I was four and mastered them in a few years. I have some knowledge of the flute, just not perfect yet. She wanted me to be able to play as many instruments as I could by the time I was twelve, she left when I was working on number four. The beta didn't care for me, so it stopped there."

"You mean your father, right?" Charley asks.

"You can't say someone is a father if they throw you in a basement, so they don't have to look at you. Father is not a name that should be given to just anyone. It should be earned with love and caring. I would rather talk about something else, I figure it is time to go find the school, I don't want to be late for my first day."

The Alpha calls over to Jose, "This is Jose. He is going to show you around tomorrow. Why don't you go with him and see where the school is and get to know each other."

"You are the girl the Alpha asked me to take care of for the first week. He didn't tell me you were so pretty."

"That would be me, I guess. Thanks Jose." The two of us walked out the door.

"I need to talk to you, Charley." As soon as they are alone Cameron turns to Charley, "That girl has some gifts. The moon goddess picked the right person to give them too. Sher isn't one of those showoffs that act like they are better than others."

"She is a sweet kid, who has had some bad times. I want her to have a better life with us," Charley says.

"We have to keep her under wraps for a few years. I know she is eighteen but her dad or her old mate can stir the waters until she is twenty or if she gets a second chance mate. So, get her lessons, let her go to school, just no limelight, not yet."

"I got you. We will take it slow," Charley is looking a little worried. "You think they can take her back after she pledged to this pack?"

"I don't want to take that chance not after I read this." He handed Charley her file. "You know what she said about her dad makes sense, look at this.

"She had broken ribs, bruised ribs, fractured arm left and right, along with a broken leg, they also noted bruises on her. Her right arm was broken and had three concussions." Charley is so mad you can see the steam, "No one did a damn thing about it!"

"He was the beta, they just washed it under the rug so to speak. We don't want her back there. They threatened to put her in a dungeon and who knows what they would do to her then." Cameron runs his fingers through his hair, "How she is this kind and caring I don't know. If it was me I would be pissed and want to hurt everyone I met."

"If they come for her, I promise I will kill them. Don't get in my way, she is never to go back to them. Kody, come here," Charley calls. "Kody, I want a piano, guitar, violin, and a flute for the little one and find me a teacher for her. Then find her some online courses for college, let's get her through school as fast as we can."

"I can get the instruments in no time the teacher might take a little time she is good and needs a good teacher. I will get it together by the end of the day tomorrow."

Jose and I are talking, "I heard you play, that was wonderful, you made the keys sing."

"Thank you, Jose. How is school around here?"

"It is not bad if you like school, the kids are cool. School comes easy to me, so I have no complaints."

"How did you get stuck with me for a week? I doubt it is fun for you to babysit a new kid."

"I am not complaining, I get to walk around with a hot chick like you and it makes my reputation better. I can use all the help I can get." I started to laugh.

The walk to school is not too far and Jose wants to meet me at the pack house around seven thirty. "Look I live at the pack house. So, if you want to just get out, come and get me. We can get into something for fun."

"That would be nice. You don't have any girlfriend who is going to want me dead, do you?"

"Now that is funny," Jose laughs. "Well, we are back at the pack house, I will see you in the morning."
