Chapter 13

As they were walking out the Alpha asked, "Who left the pack on Saturday?"

Drew looks at him, "No one left."

"That's funny I felt the bond weaken."

The bus pulls in and the four of them are standing there waiting as everyone is getting off the bus. Bonnie stays back a little, so she is the last one to get off.

"Where is Melody?" Drew asks panicking.

"Isn't she with you?" She snaps at him.

"You know she isn't with us. Now where is she?"

"She packed her stuff, told me what you said and did to her and said she had to go with you."

Alpha Kevin walked up to Bonnie, "You are a bad liar, Bonnie. Now tell me the truth."

"Alpha, she is my friend, and I am her only friend. I will not betray her for anything in this world, she deserved so much better then she got from this pack and her family. All she has ever done is to be kind and caring."

"Bonnie, you have to calm down, things were not that bad."

"Not that bad!" Bonnie is losing it, how could they say that after everything they have done. "Even her father and brother talked to her like dirt and hit her, and don't you dare say you didn't I saw the bruises. She used to say it was the only way she could help you two stop hurting. Eric said you wanted her in a dungeon what kind of family are you. So, no Alpha I do not have to tell you anything, and I will not tell you anything."

"Bonnie, your loyalty to Melody is admirable. We have all made mistakes, it is time to fix them. We can't do that if we can't find her."

"She left Saturday, with no real plans. She had all her savings with her, knowing they would take it if they knew she had money, and I gave her some more money. She left right after those two left."

Beta Michael commented, "She couldn't have that much money, she couldn't be that far."

Bonnie has a sinister look on her face, "She had little to no clothes, went without food, and worked harder than anyone knew so she could go to college. She wanted to be a doctor to help people and to play that damn piano that you punished her for playing. She had ten thousand dollars saved, and I gave her another four thousand."

"How the hell did she get that kind of money, I took most of her money."

"Yeah, Eric, I know you always stole her money. She learned to hide it. That means though, she can be anywhere. I don't care what any of you think of me or what you do to me, you are getting what you all deserve. Even you Drew."

"What did I do? I never picked on her."

"You knew what you were going to do. You told her you wanted her and gave her hope. Then you slept with her, all you wanted her for is a mistress, a personal whore. Your own mate? You are all not worth my time or hers. I am going home to my family who know how to be a family."

"You stop right there, Bonnie."

She turns, looks him square in the eye, "Yes, Alpha Kevin."

"I am Alpha ordering you to let us know if she contacts you. Do you understand me?"

"Yes, Alpha Kevin. I pray to the moon goddess she never does."

"I will forgive this outburst of yours because it is a hard situation, but it will not happen again. Is that clear?"

"Yes Alpha. I wish I was as brave as she was and could have left with her." Bonnie runs off crying.

Dad, I feel so bad like I have lost something and it hurts. My wolf is hurting, and I don't know what to do?"

"We have to find her and fix this. If we don't you will have to pick a mate and that should help."

Mrs. Walters came over to the front of the pack house, "Excuse me, have any of you seen Melody?"

Drew answers, "No, why do you need her?"

"She comes to the orphanage and teaches the kids to play the piano and makes them treats. She said she would be back today, and I wanted to save her the walk since I was out this way."

"How long has she been doing this?" Micheal wanted to know.

"Let me think? Yes, almost four years now. She comes right after school and has never missed a day until she took this trip. I asked her once why she comes. Cause I couldn't pay her. She said all kids need love and someone who cares. That is unusual for a young person her age to say, but I think she meant it. If you see her tell her, we have missed her."

"I will make sure and do that Mrs. Walters." The Alpha taps his foot his temper is getting to its breaking point.

Eric looks over to the Alpha and his father, "We are going to need a few omegas. She is not here to cook for us or to clean and do the laundry." They all look at each other more upset than even ten minutes ago.

That was the last straw the alpha growled. "Look what happens when I leave two idiots in charge now figure out some of this on your own."

"We have to find my mate and we can't do that standing here. Dad, what do we do? You know more about this than us. I know you are mad at us but I need your help."

"You're right son, get some pictures of her and take them to the bus station, the train station and airport. See if we can get a lead, I'll send some men to help. Does anyone have a picture of her?"

Beta Michael says, "The school has one of her. They took it when she made all A's for three years in a row. Only one that has ever done that at this school. I'll go to the school you boys start getting the men together, get moving."

"I'll go with you," the Alpha said. Micheal nods as he walks off with his head down.

At the front office. "Hello, I need a photo of one of your students. Melody Timmons please."

"Which one do you want?"

"How many do you have?"

"About six I think. It might be seven."

"Can we see them all?" The lady returns with the photos and lays them on the counter. "Do you usually have this many photos of a student?"

"No Beta, she has earned these. When our students earn something, we take their picture and hang them on the honor wall."

"How did she earn them? I know about her grades, what else has she done?"

"This one is for her grades, like you said. This is for her charity work, this one is for her college courses. She has finished almost three semesters in credits, on wolf anatomy we have never had a student graduate with a full year under her belt and if she follows through she will have her second year done by the end of the summer. This one is for what she called just fun, a program she started for the kids who needed help with their school grades. She talked teachers into coming two nights a week and volunteer. And of course, she came too."

"So, two nights a week we have teachers coming to school to teach, how much is that costing us?"

"I said they volunteered, Beta. This one touched me the most, she was so giving and worried about people. Some of our kids don't have moms and when we had mother daughter days, she went and sat with them to give them someone to do things with. I asked why she worked so hard. You would never expect her answer.

"What was her answer?"

"'We don't have a Luna and my mom, the beta, left. So, it's up to me to take their place till someone comes along.' Beta you have a very special daughter there. Do you want her paycheck since you are here?"

"Paycheck?"

"Yeah, she comes every Saturday and cleans the library and the offices. It only pays thirty dollars, but she never complained not once. I can't wait for her to get back from that trip. I know she needs some time off, but we all miss her."

The Alpha looks at his beta, "Why didn't we know about any of this?"

"We never paid attention." Alpha Drew says as he feels even worse about not helping her.

"No, I never paid attention. I was too busy feeling sorry for myself. We need to talk to Bonnie. I need to understand what was so bad for her here. If she did all this and it sounds like most of the people loved her."
