Chapter 71

It is so nice to be back home. Bonnie is helping me even more now that she knows my secret. It is making things so much easier.

"Bonnie, we need to get caught up with the patients here."

"Well let's get started I am waiting on you girl."

"You know Bethany finished school and is working with us."

"Yeah, she is working in the lab, something about breaking down the blood to figure out how the cancer works."

"Kind of, she analyzes the cells and finds the cancer and isolates it. Hopefully we can find a real cure for cancer." My two best friends, Bethany, and Bonnie, are working with me, how could that get any better.

"It is your first day, Bethany, what about we have lunch together the three of us and a little girl talk."

"I would enjoy some girl talk, Luna."

"With any luck between the work you do with the cancer cells and my work on the tissue samples we might find a cure."

"You are doing wonders with your treatments they are working."

"It doesn't work for everyone." We started working on finding a cure that doesn't require the magic of my healing hands. One day I will not be here and then there will be no way to keep the wolves safe. That idea was heart breaking.

I need a break and decide to go home for a little. "Little one, Anthony called he said that they will be here in thirty minutes." I sigh I wanted a break.

"Thanks, Papa Charley, I will get some coffee and head over to the pack house."

"I wanted to talk to you about Alpha Kevin. I know that you have a forgiving heart, I would not ever want to change that. Your forgiving nature is what makes you, you. It also makes you trust in people, some of which do not deserve it. Just remember the past and don't let a false face fool you."

"Didn't you once tell me to have faith and don't let fear rule my decisions."

"There is a big difference between not fearing and not seeing the truth. There are people in this world who will say what you want and smile in your face and have a knife ready to stab you the minute you turn around."

"I will make you a deal, Papa Charley, if you see me doing that just say my name and not little one and I will know I am going too far."

"I will not be around forever you need to figure this out without me, little one. Trust has to be earned, don't just give it away. I love you, little one, and I want you safe."

"I don't want to hear you are not going to be around. You will be around for a long, long time, you forget what I can do." Melody gives Papa Charley a large hug and a peck on the cheek. "I will remember what you said I promise."

"Hey where is my kiss?" Anthony teases as he walks up on us.

"You haven't earned yours yet."

"Keep your kisses then." Anthony turns his back to her and pouts like a two-year-old.

This has Melody scuffing his hair and saying, "You are a good boy," in a childish tone.

He then spins around and tells her, "I can show you how good I am."

Melody slaps him, "Not in front of papa." Which has the two men laughing,

"Let's get ready for our new guests."

"Do I have to, I have been so tired lately."

Branden and Bonnie walk into the little group listening to their banter. "Hi, Branden, did you get what I asked you to do, done?"
