Chapter 4
Bonnie sees them leaving and hurries to see Melody. She expected to see her all smiles and happy but finds her on the floor curled in a ball crying. "Melody, what is wrong? Don't you like your mate?"
"He doesn't want me, he rejected me. Then he threatened me."
"How did he threaten you?"
"He wants me to live on pack land and be his breeder. I'm not good enough to be his Luna. I don't want to be a mistress or breeder to a mate that doesn't want me."
"He can't do that!" Bonnie is ready to run after them to tell them off. "What kind of pathetic asshole is he?"
"The kind that told me if I say no, they are going to keep me in the dungeons. I won't even be allowed to raise my own pups. He is going to pick out his own Luna. She gets to be mom, and I am an aunt if I behave."
"This is crazy, he said he wanted you and I believed him. How stupid can I get?"
"According to him the pack wouldn't accept me. I am like my mother. He isn't going to let me break his heart or take his pups."
"Melody, there has to be something we can do. That isn't any kind of life for anyone."
"He is letting me stay here with you until the class trip is over. Then he had the audacity to tell me that he is leaving guards around the resort not to be stupid. They went back to the pack for some reason. I wasn't paying attention to everything after Drew told me his plan. I have my savings with me and all my clothes, I have to sneak out of here tonight. Bonnie, you have to keep my secret until you go back to the pack."
"I brought my savings with me too. There is four thousand dollars between my card and what's in my bag. I brought it with me to have fun. Sunday, they are going shopping at some of the high-end stores in this area. I was planning on buying each of us an outfit. I think there is a better use for it now."
"I can't take your money. I have enough with my savings."
"We are not discussing this. You are taking the money. It's Saturday, if you leave today you will have about thirty-five hours head start on them. What scares me is if they catch up to you. I am afraid they will hurt you. They beat you for nothing now, if you leave they would have a reason."
"I know, you're right. That is not a life I want to live. No one should have to. If I don't try, I will regret it for the rest of my life."
"Well then you get packed. I am going to the reception desk to get the money off my card so you can have cash on you. They might try to trace the card."
"I might be better off taking my backpack. It would be better to run with it than a large suite case."
"That's a good idea. Don't take the dress with you. You don't want to look to sexy while running, Goddess you don't know what kind of people you might meet on the road. You and I wear the same size pants, take a few of mine with you. Most of your stuff is worn out. I'll be right back."
"Bonnie, I don't want your money now stop."
"If you don't take it, I will rat you out to the asshole."
Melody's eyes got as big as saucers. "You wouldn't dare."
"Try me."
"You are so stubborn." Tears started to fall again. "I will miss you so much."
"None of that, you will have me crying. Pack your stuff and take a shower." When Bonnie got back Melody was getting out of the shower. "Did you pack yet?"
"Not yet. I decided to take a shower first. I picked out five outfits, one to wear and four should fit in the bag. I wanted to leave room for feminine products and the money."
"My mom gave me this to hide my money in, you take it no one would expect you had any money there."
Melody looked at the sneakers Bonnie handed her. Confused, she glanced at Bonnie then back at the shoes. "I give up where do I put the money?"
Bonnie laughed, she turned the shoes over and the bottoms slid out like a drawer. "The soles are hollow. Once you slide the bottom back in, those little metal decorations act like a lock to keep it in place."
"Your mom is so smart. You can't let them know you helped me and knew I left. I don't want you to get in trouble."
"That's easy. I am telling them you said you were leaving with your mate. That I would see you back at the pack. They would believe that. I mean they are stupid enough to leave you here."
"He did leave some guards to watch over us. If they see me leave, they might want to stop me."
"They are not going to pay too much attention. When we go to town for lunch at that fancy restaurant you could slip out. How are you getting away from here. They can check public transportation."
"I have a plan. I can't tell you about it. The Alpha may order you to tell them what you know. The less you know the better. With your money and mine I will get away. Trust me."
"I agree I don't want to hurt you and if I know anything I might do just that. Wait a while then let me know you're safe. I am going to be worried sick about you."
"We are leaving in a few minutes we better head down with the others."
At the restaurant the two enter the bathroom. "This is the best time for you to take off. The guards aren't even here." Bonnie starts to cry. "I wish I could go with you. I am going to miss you so much."
"I do too, don't forget me. Tell your parents thank you for everything they did for me. I love you, Bonnie and your parents. I better get moving before I start crying and give us away."
"I will never forget you; how could I forget my best friend. If you hurry, you will be able to sneak out the back. The other kids won't even notice." Melody takes off as quiet as she can, once she is out the door and far enough away, she lets herself cry.
'There's no time to stand around and cry, if my plan is going to work. I have to move and fast to find the nearest truck stop and catch a ride on a big rig. It doesn't matter where it is going as long as it is far away from here. They won't find me if I don't buy a ticket or show myself at any ticket booths.'
Her walk to the he truck stop isn't too far. The whole way there her mind is going. 'I just have to pick out the right truck driver. If I pick out the wrong one, I am going to be in even more trouble.'
