Draco's hands ran over your skin, goosebumps appearing on your arms where his fingers ghosted. You breathed heavily, pulling his lips to yours. His hands were soft against your back below your shirt. His lips traveled against your neck, your fingers running through his white-blond hair.

"Oi, Malfoy." You adjusted your sweater while Draco turned around, fixing his hair.

"Someone from the ministry is here to see you." Your face fell and Draco turned around, his blue eyes searching yours for a reason not to go. You caressed his face and spoke quietly, "I love you, remember that."

He disappeared with one backwards glance at you. He looked more scared than you'd ever seen him, and the messenger who sent for him looked disgusted at you then the color of your shirt. You glanced down at the blue and silver seal on your sweater and when you looked up she was gone. Pansy had never liked you, you didn't wonder why. You left the empty classroom, playing with the gold ring around your ring finger. Draco's promise.

When you walked into the great hall, all eyes were on you. You ignored them, sitting by yourself at the end of the Ravenclaw table. Someone sat across from you and smiled when you looked at her.

"Hello, (Y/N)." Luna would always be your best friend and you loved her for it.

"He'll be fine I'm sure. He made a promise. I've known Draco longer than you. He always stays on his promises." Sometimes you forgot that Draco and Luna were best friends before you knew either of them.

"Especially a promise to you." You nodded in agreement, twisting the ring around your finger again. Draco was a secret sentimentalist and he'd engraved it with his favorite saying for the two of you: Till the world ends. His mother was already keen on the two of you continuing your pure bloodlines and was thrilled when Draco decided to promise you to be together forever. You looked at the empty spot next to Blaise, who was communicating silently with Luna. Blaise's parents had been equally thrilled when he and Luna got together. Not because of Luna's father, but because Luna was a way to keep in the bloodline, their daughter had already married a muggleborn.

You sleep very little that night, trying to forget about Draco being gone, but you could feel it every time your left hand touched the sheets. Finally, in the darkness of Hogwarts, you slipped into the hallway and walked towards the Room of Requirements. The door opened for you and you saw only one thing. The Mirror of Erised stood before you. Looking at it for a moment you saw just your tired face then the door opened. Behind you in the mirror Draco was watching you, his blue eyes trained on you. He stepped towards you in the mirror and then you felt his hand on your shoulder. He brushed your hair away from your neck and you closed your eyes as he kissed the junction between your neck and shoulder. His hands rested on either one of your hips as he kissed up your neck. You allowed a breath to escape your mouth and Draco spun you around so he could kiss your lips. He was warm and felt like home below your shaking hands.

"I love you," he whispered against your skin. You noticed a slight tremor running through him and you wrapped yourself around him, pulling back just enough to look at him. He didn't look scared anymore, just sad.

"What happened?" You asked. His hands wandered around below your shirt, well his shirt. He shook his head, kissing you again. You caught a glimpse of the mirror again and saw one singular difference from the scene playing out. Draco wasn't shaking in the mirror, but you could feel the shaking under your own hands.

"Draco, please," you said quietly, catching his eyes again.

"They're taking you away from me," he replied, the shaking from his body flowing into his voice. His whole demeanor broke, tears escaping his blue eyes.

"I can't lose you," he breathed, his tear stained lips kissing yours. You could taste the salt from his tears. You could feel his need and for some reason he felt more human to you than ever before.

"You won't," you said, letting him pull his shirt over his head, then yours. He kissed along the neckline of your tank top, pulling that over your head as well. You jumped, your legs resting just above Draco's hips. One hand held you up against him, the other pushed your head towards his lips. You heard a soft swooshing noise and Draco set you on a bed that must had just appeared. The mirror was gone by now, the room glowing in the light of candles. Draco lay down next to you, turning so he was looking at your face. His long fingers ran along your cheek.

"I don't want to lose you. My mum said she doesn't want you to have to go through this with me," Draco whispered, squeezing his eyes shut. You shook your head.

"I told you. The two of us. Forever." You showed him the ring on your hand and the engraving on the outside of the gold band. He nodded, pulling you close to him again.

You woke up in the Room of Requirements, alone and cold. You bunched the blankets around your bare body and sat up. The familiar feeling of the ring on your finger was gone. At the foot of the bed Draco's owl was waiting patiently, a note tied to her leg. You carefully untied the note, running the back of your finger down her head softly. The ring was sitting tied to a note in Draco's neat handwriting.

Y/N, it is no secret I love you more than anything, but I can't let them take you from me because I refuse to join. I'm sorry I don't get to keep my promise, but I don't want you to have to get included in my mess. I will always love you and it is your decision to keep this ring, to tell me that if I ever get out of this alive... I know I won't, but I want to know. Goodbye until I see you, if ever.

With all the love I have, Draco

P.S.- Patience is yours now. She likes you better anyway... damned owl

You stared at the ring for a long time. You looked at Patience, who was looking at you with blue eyes. She was a rare animal, you knew it. Her eyes reminded you of Draco's and you slid the ring on your finger. You got up and pulled on your clothing, noticing that Draco had left his shirt for you. It was still dark out when you stepped into the hallway and you walked alone to the owlery, Patience flying behind you. She flew away as soon as she reached open air and you went back inside, having had enough of the cold snow. The library was the only place to go from there, and you would have gone even if it wasn't the only place open at that time. You took the familiar path to your favorite books and found Draco waiting there. He looked down at your left hand and breathed out.

"I was really hoping I wasn't wrong." He pulled you towards him and kissed you.

"Why would I ever say no."
