You frowned deeply, watching the men, basically boys, below your window set up chairs and dressers to protect them. Some of them were sitting and drinking while others talked and worked.

"Enjolras!" you called. One man with curly hair looked up and smiled. You just frowned deeper and he sighed, moving to your door and walking in. You heard his footsteps on the stairs and he walked into your room.

"You must stop frowning, it will make you wrinkle faster," he said, wrapping his arms around you. Once again you frowned, sick of him being so sweet to you.

"I still think this is a horrendous idea. Someone's going to get hurt or worse." Enjolras squeezed you tightly and kissed the side of your neck. He stayed silent for a few second before replying.

"If something happens you'll be right here to save me," he decided, "I trust you with my life, (Y/N)." He kissed you warmly, hugging you closer. You kissed back whole heartedly.

"I love you."

"I love you too," he replied, kissing you again and then he let go, walking back to the stairs. He turned just for a moment and winked at you before going back down to join his cause.

"That's what I am afraid of," you said to the empty doorway and you watched him rile up the boys below.

You woke up to the sound of gunfire and ran to the shutters. You'd insisted that they stay unlocked so you could see what was happening below, but Enjolras refused and nailed them closed. You tore at the boards and managed to shift one so you could see what happened. The French army was on the other side of the street, firing at the barricade. Enjolras was standing at the top, yelling orders and shooting. His head held high. He was sure people would fight with him. He'd forbidden you from leaving the house, but you'd never allow that.

Before you could get out of the house the fight was over. The army left and you finally made out the door.

"(Y/N), get bandages and water. We must save the wounded." You'd already gotten everything for cleaning and bandaging. You brought them out with you, helping clean the bullet wounds and collecting any salvageable guns.

"(Y/N), go back inside now," Enjolras huffed, grabbing you by the shoulder. You fought back, shrugging him off.

"Now." You narrowed your eyes.

"Undo the shutters."

"No."

"Then I stay," you replied, looking across the square. Marius was sitting on his own and a few feet away Gavroche was leaning against a chair and smiling. He was humming a tune and Enjolras sighed before nodding. He undid the shutters and locked you back into the building, leaving you with a kiss. The men went to sleep, a few keeping watch. You kept watch from your window, the French army in red paced on the other end of the street.

Gavroche was humming, that's what woke you up. He passed just below your window and you moved to watch the square again. He began to hum "Little People", as he'd named it. There were few people left behind the barricade and no one else was coming. You frowned again and thought of what Enjolras. Once again the singing began from behind the lines and you hummed with it, watching Gavroche climb through the chairs and tables. You were prepared to yell when a shot went off. He kept singing and picking things off the bodies. Suddenly another shot went off and hit the little boy. You stepped away from the window, eyes watering.

"You at the barricades listen to this. The people of Paris sleep in their beds. You have no chance." You shut the window, knowing the fighting would start again and you would need a gun before you opened those windows again. The firing started again and you moved back to the other wall, watching the walls shake and yelling begin. Enjolras was yelling and you watched as the shutters of your windows lit up from the bullets flying outside.

You went downstairs before you had a chance to hear any more, keeping to the back wall the whole time. The firing stopped, the silence making your heart race faster than before. There was yelling and you went back to your window upstairs, looking out at the bodies of the young men who had served such a noble cause. Enjolras was not among them, but you saw him through an open window across the street. His back was turned and he was surrounded by the men in red. You wanted to cry out, but didn't have any words to say. His arm raised, the French flag in hand and several shots rang out.

Enjolras fell through the window and you were sure your heart stopped, the French flag hanging beside him like a symbol of his fight.
