You groaned, pacing your office. The BAU. They called the BAU. You were a detective. The Arlington Police force could handle one serial killer without the BAU. The sheriff, one of your closest friends, was sitting in one of the chairs across from your desk.

"(Y/N), it'll be fine. It is your case, it will be even when they get here." You glared at him and he went quiet. You continued to pace across the room.

"Or is it for another reason?" You narrowed your eyes at him, but before you could answer, one of the deputies knocked on the door.

"The guys from the FBI are here." Charlie got up and looked at you for a second before following the deputy out. You followed begrudgingly, watching wearily as he introduced himself.

"You must be, Sheriff Dane."

"Call me Charlie, you must be Agent Hotchner."

"Yes, this is SSA Rossi and agents Prentiss, Morgan, Jareau, and Doctor Reid." Charlie shook all of their hands, aside from Reid's and then motioned for you to walk over.

"This is Detective (Y/F/N)(Y/L/N). She's the lead detective on this case." The agents nodded, aside from Reid. JJ smiled at you.

"Alright, we'll see what you have," Hotch said to Charlie. You scoffed and rolled your eyes, leading the way to the conference room where you'd set up. There were a few other people involved in the actual searching for the killer.

"Quick run through, we had a missing person report one time every two weeks, but it was mostly high risk victims. We figured  that they were just leaving. Then we got this call." One of the other officers played a tape. The distinct voice of a senator played.

"His daughter went missing at the same time we'd been getting the calls about missing persons. And then we got a call from some runners that they found three dead bodies near the trail."

"Thank you, detective." Hotch turned away from you and you rolled your eyes again, walking out of the room and back to your office. You knew how this went. They would take over the case and you would be left to tell people that their family members were dead.

"Well she didn't seem happy," Morgan said. Prentiss nodded in agreement and Reid glared at them before following you.

"What's up with him?"

"For profilers you sure are thick," JJ commented, starting to plan her press release, or lack thereof. Morgan looked at Prentiss with a raised eyebrow. Prentiss shrugged and got to work.

You sat down behind your desk and watched as Spencer tossed his satchel in 'his' chair before stepping into your office and closing the door.

"What's wrong?"

"I know how this works, Spence. You come in and take my case and then leave before I can get a word in, leaving me with three bodies on my hands." Reid watched as you paced back and forth, letting you walk off some steam before stepping in your way and putting his hands on your shoulders and looking you in the eye.

"We would- I wouldn't do that do you. I'm not going to. I promise." You sighed and let him hug you before stepping away and going back to the conference room. The team was gathered around the phone and only half noticed the two of you entering.
