Chapter 43: Ba Sing Se

(Three days later)

Y/N's P.O.V

It's been three days since we recuited Kai.

I've been training him one-on-one and acting as his mentor.

He's a quick learner that's for sure.

Much quickly than Korra, but she doesn't need to know that.

We're now on the outskirts of Ba Sing Se. 

I'm with Korra and dad.

Korra: It's so exciting being on a diplomatic mission to Ba Sing Se. What's the Earth Queen like?

Tenzin: I've never met her, but I've heard she can be quite demanding.

Y/N: I haven't met her either and I'm not sure that I've ever wanted too.

Korra: Fair enough.

Just then Bolin rushes over. 

Bolin: This is it, Mako! We've made it! This is where dad grew up! Look, look!

Mako comes over.

Mako: Okay, calm down. I'm looking.

We start flying through Ba Sing Se.

The outer ring looks alot worse compared to the last time I was here.

It smells worse too.

We get to the Upper Ring and touch down outside the Queen's Palace.

After that we're greeted by an older man.

???: Avatar Korra, Master Tenzin, Master Y/N, it is a pleasure to welcome you and your party to the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se. I'm Grand secretariat Gun.

Korra bows to him.

Korra: Thank you.

Bolin comes over with Pabu, Wolf, Naga, Lucky and Oogi.

Bolin: Ah, it's got that Upper Ring smell.

Gun: Ah. The Queen hates animals. We've got to get them out of sight.

Bolin: Well, I can just stash Pabu in my shirt. These four are gonna be a little tougher.

I look at Lucky as he goes over to Gun and licks him.

He looks at me.

Gun: A very friendly bison you have here, Master Y/N.

Y/N: Yeah, Lucky has always been a friendly one.

Gun: Well, either way the Queen won't like him.

He comes back over.

Gun: Just come with me and I'll take you to your quarters.

As we walk to our quarters Gun tells us everything that we have to do infront of the Queen.

Asami looks at me.

Asami: Do you think the Queen treats all her guests like this?

Y/N: Yeah, I'd say so. Given how nervous this guy is, I can already tell she's gonna be a pain in the ass.

Asami: Me too.

A moment later we get to our quarters and walk around inside.

Gun: Now, go in and make yourselves comfortable, and keep those animals out of sight in the backyard. Avatar Korra, if you'd like to follow me, we don't want to keep her Majesty waiting.

Korra leaves with Gun and we settle in.

I look around and immediately notice that Kai isn't here.

Y/N: Oh, shit.

(Five minutes later)

After looking around the place I go back to the other's.

Jinora: Hey, has anyone seen Kai?

Tenzin: Kai?

Bolin: Kai! You here?

Bumi comes in.

Bumi: He's not in here.

Y/N: I've checked this whole place. He's not here. This isn't good.

Asami: I don't think I've seen him since we landed.

Mako: I knew that kid was no good. He was just waiting for an opportunity to run away again.

Jinora: We have to find him.

Mako: What's the point? He obviously doesn't care about us.

Y/N: That's not the point, Mako. He's our responsibility, he's my responsibility. As his Mentor I have to look out for him and keep him out of trouble.

Tenzin: Y/N's right. He's just a little boy and he's our responsibility. Besides, he's the only Airbender we've recruited so far. We can't lose him now.

I walk to the exit.

Y/N: I'm gonna find him.

Mako: No, Y/N. You stay here. Bolin and I will find him.

I stop and turn to him.

Y/N: Mako, I told you he's my responsibility. I need to find him.

Mako: No, you're needed here right now. Korra may need your help with the Earth Queen. Bolin and I will find Kai and come back as soon as we can.

I sigh.

Y/N: Okay, fine. You better find him.

Mako: We will. Come on, Bolin. Let's go.

Bolin: Right. Don't worry, Y/N. We'll bring Kai back safe and sound. I promise.

The two leave to go and find Kai.

(One hour later)

So Korra came back from her meeting with the Earth Queen.

Apparently she'll give us information on the Airbenders in Ba Sing Se, if we get some of her gold that hasn't been delivered yet.

So Korra, Asami and I are going to get the gold for her.

I look out of the window as the airship takes off.

Korra comes over and holds my hand.

Korra: Hey, handsome. You okay?

I sigh.

Y/N: Yeah. I just don't like leaving knowing that Kai is out there on his own. I should be out there looking for him too.

Korra: Don't worry, Y/N. Mako and Bolin will find him and bring him back.

Y/N: I know. I know.

I sigh.

Y/N: Man, that boy is way too stupid and reckless.

Korra: You know, that reminds me of another Airbender I know.

I look at her.

She's obviously talking about me.

Y/N: Oh, haha. Very funny.

Korra: The funny thing is, you and Kai are more similar than you think.

Y/N: Yeah, I guess you're right.

She leans her head on my shoulder.

Korra: Babe, he's gonna be okay. I'm sure he'll be back there once we get back from this job.

Y/N: I hope you're right.

She looks at me.

Korra: Have I ever told you that you're cute when you're worried?

I chuckle.

Y/N: Oh my god, stop.

I kiss her.

I just wanna get this job done and find those new Airbenders.

And there's something off about the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se.

I don't know what it is though. I just know I don't like it.
