After Addison had her shower, she placed the note in her diary and wrote a small entry before calling her family. The talk was short and she left out the note since she didn't want to worry them. After all, it has to be bad that the Superhero themselves has to leave her a note to watch her back. It almost seemed like the Superhero felt borderline unsafe too.
After that, she went downstairs and had the shawarma that Jake got for dinner. Everyone sat around the table and ate their meals, Fleurette was nowhere to be seen.
"This is really good," Addison nodded approvingly. "Hey, I might actually break into Harvington just for this. And then maybe speak to you and ambush Jeff as well."
"Yeah, you should do that one day," Jake nodded. "And Jeff and I hang out together whenever we meet around campus. Which is all the time, despite how big the campus is."
"Don't you guys take different courses or something?" Giuseppe asked, pulling the wrapper of his shawarma off to take another bite.
Jake nodded. "We do, but we're in the same faculty. Besides, we did take one of the mandatory subjects together."
"Right, the general subjects..." Giuseppe nodded. "What is it, Academic Writing?"
"Yep," Jake smirked.
"Same case as both of us," Jordan piped up, one side of his face bulging with food. "Also, did you get one of these for Fleurette?"
Jake nodded and pushed an unopened package of shawarma forward while eating his own. "Didn't forget her."
"That's nice," Addison smiled. "Anyway, this is real good. I might drop by Harvington just for this."
"Same," Jordan nodded.
"And maybe I can drive you too," Giuseppe added gleefully.
Felicia chuckled. "Yeah, it's really good, isn't it? Price isn't so bad too."
Fleurette chose that same moment to materialise, and while banging the door did she do so.
"Seems like she's working on breaking the door just because Jordan didn't succeed," Felicia grumbled as she got off her chair with her shawarma.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Jake called as she started leaving the room.
Jordan placed a hand on the blond's arm, grinning. "Shh. Let her cook."
Jake groaned and got up with how own meal to follow his mother. The rest followed as well.
Felicia went to the living room and confronted Fleurette who was bent over to do something with or near her feet.
"Fleur, can I speak to you for a moment?" Felicia addressed her.
Fleurette swung around to face her, almost menacingly, till the older woman took a step back. "What is it, Ms Kennedy?"
Felicia frowned, looking completely unfazed. "Do you really have to slam the door whenever you come in?"
"What?" Fleurette looked confused.
"Unrelated, but are you drunk?" Jordan piped up.
Fleurette frowned as her piercing gaze turned to him. "What?"
Jordan cowered slightly. Addison was a little shocked that actually slipped behind her for protection. She felt so bad for Fiolina at this point. She just hoped that he got her flowers.
"You better get her flowers later," Addison threatened him in a low voice.
"Eww, why would I give her flowers?" Jordan subtly pointed at Fleurette behind Addison's back.
Addison groaned. "Not her, I many Fio."
"Oh, that makes more sense..."
Fleurette scoffed and lit a cigarette made her way upstairs while smoking it.
"Hey, no smoking in the house!" Felicia scolded as she went after Fleurette.
The rest of the tenants, and Jake, were left to watch in surprise as a standoff happened at the top of the stairway.
"Ms Greyson, this is still my house," Felicia scowled as she waved the smoke away from her face. "And you can't smoke indoors. Go do so in the porch if you must, not in here."
Fleurette glared at her in response, but Felicia didn't give in. Though she was smaller than Fleurette, she had a certain authority within her and that alone made Fleurette falter slightly. She sighed and stubbed her cigarette out in her custom case before retreating into her room. Felicia shook her head and came downstairs.
"I should give her an eviction notice in the morning," Felicia said.
"Yeah, because that's technically worse than what I did," Giuseppe piped up. "I don't even smoke, let alone in here, and I was drunk then too."
Jake couldn't help but snort at that the reminder.
"Yeah, that's what I think too," Felicia sighed. "That was quite disrespectful."
And then she took a bite of her shawarma and walked past them with a short sigh to go back to the dining hall.
"What about the shawarma that we got for Fleurette?" Addison asked. "Are we still giving it to her?"
Felicia turned to look at her in surprise, then sighed and finished the last of her shawarma before retrieving the remaining unopened shawarma to bring to Fleurette. And the rest were once again left to watch as she walked past them and went up the steps.
"We're getting free drama at the expense of staying here, aren't we?" Jordan remarked quietly, which earned himself a nudge from Giuseppe.
Felicia quietly knocked on the door and Fleurette opened a few seconds later, her coat off. Once again, the two women were in a standoff.
"You must be hungry," Felicia said as she handed the shawarma to her tenant. "Here, Jake got everyone some shawarma on the way back from school."
Fleurette looked at the shawarma, then looked up at Felicia, then shook her head. "I already ate. Besides, I don't eat street meat."
With that, she slammed the door in Felicia's shocked face.
"So, about that eviction notice..." Giuseppe piped up when Felicia turned to look at the party gathered at the foot of the staircase.
"Tomorrow morning..." Felicia grunted as she came downstairs, then thrusted the shawarma at Giuseppe before going in the direction of the kitchen.
"Yep, I've gotta do some damage control," Jake turned around and started going after her.
"I'll come with," Jordan said and followed him. So did the remaining tenants.
They walked to the kitchen to see Felicia aggressively cutting open a new packet of dog food for Freesia and Frida, who waited eagerly at her feet. The two of them looked much healthier now, though still a little small.
"Mom, you alright?" Jake asked, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Because that was rough."
"I don't want to talk about it," Felicia said, but proceeded to do just that as she served the dogs their dinner. "I've never felt so insulted by a tenant before, especially since I treat everyone like family. And this is what I get in return."
"No, I feel like there's something off about her," Giuseppe piped up. "Always have since the first day."
Addison turned to look at him in surprise. "You too?"
Giuseppe nodded. "Yes, and I realised that you didn't tell her about your Superhero encounters and whatnot."
"Yeah, I found that a little odd too, but I understood," Jake added. "After all, having others know that the Superhero drops into your shop is quite... conspicuous."
Jordan nodded as well. "Yeah. She's been... she's either too pushy and clingy or too distant like what happened today."
"Anyone wants this?" Giuseppe asked, holding the unopened shawarma in one hand and the wrapper of his own finished one in the other. "I'm full. This is really filling. I don't think I can eat any more."
"Maybe we can share it?" Jake suggested and went over to the counter to get a knife. "There are five of us, right? I'll just cut it into equal pieces."
