97. She's my woman!

Manik's POV

Seth and Joel described each moment they spent in the company of Stanley Archibald's guards. Since they used to work as soldiers, they knew most of my progress with grooming factory businessmen and their arrest. They were cognizant of Stanley Archibald being a red flag, hence they sternly warned Nandini about not going to see him again.

"She had been flushed like she was bullied inside his house when she came out with him." Seth said with a grave expression. "He said that she lost her way in the mansion while looking at the portraits."

Joel hummed, "When she sat inside the car, I asked her what was the matter and she just..."

"She just what?" I got him by the collar and seared in his face.

"She just cried and mumbled something."

"Do you remember what she was mumbling?"

"Something about her mother." Blood ran cold in my veins.

Although I knew about Nandini's father being a greedy bastard, she never spoke about her mother. From what I also recall she was dead, wasn't she?

"But her mother's dead!" I exclaimed.

Seth and Joel had no idea. She shared a look before turning to me.

"That's what we thought so, too, Alpha." I wonder how they knew it. "Nandini once told us while we were talking about our families how she loved her mother and had gone through the toughest time when she died."

I let go of him and moved back. I could picture Nandini sitting with them in a coffee shop or in the car, talking about her mother. She didn't speak much about her family in the human world, but she always shared something whenever she was blown by emotions.

"Anything else you heard her mumbling?"

"No, Alpha," Seth said and Joel shook his head in a no. "After that day you dismissed us as her guards and from the following day we joined back as soldiers."

Without replying to them anything, I left from there at once. I came back to the party and took my usual place by the pillar in the dark. I liked this spot as I could watch everyone but none could watch me.

My body started heating up as I tensed at the thought of Nandini. She might have seen something or heard something from Stanley Archibald in his mansion that got her lose her composure. She was a tough woman and she didn't cry in front of others like that. There must be something that happened and I need to find out what.

Just as I was thinking where to go and who to approach to find more about my missing girlfriend, my eyes fell on Nathan. He was on the dance floor doing some salsa with Jenna. The way they looked into each other's eyes and a naughtily amused smile tugged at their lips, I could say something was going on between them.

"Beta Nathan," I didn't care about the blooming sexual tension between them as I disturbed their dancing.

"Yes, Alpha," He let go of Jenna and stood erect, facing me with that professional face I was used to seeing.

"I need to talk to you... About Nandini." His eyebrows jumped to his forehead.

"Sure," Nathan nodded and strode to the corner against another pillar out of many.

There was light in this region but I sure hoped no one would come to interrupt us. After all, it was an alpha standing alone with his beta. Only fools would dare disturb two leaders.

"What was it that Nandini wanted to talk to me about that day when you came to see me with her?" Something shifted in his face and he lowered his eyes.
