88. Mission: Rescue mom

Nandini's POV

I got out of the cab after paying the driver in front of Stanley Archibald's mansion. As my eyes absorbed the view of his abode, I recalled how easy it was to sneak out of Malhotra  mansion. Not even sneaking out, I should call it proud leave because there was no one to stop me.

My guards seemed to have evaporated like vapor. I didn't hear from them after I discovered Manik's true face. They just left me on my own. From an overly protected Nandini I was back to being self prepared Nandini. I was on my own again without any guards having to watch over me like a mother with her five year old child.

If you think I am sad about it. No, I am not. In fact, I am dancing in delight for I didn't have to come up with ideas to escape them. I'm glad that Manik terminated them from being my guards. This way I can work my way to rescue my mother with unmitigated attention. I will have to follow no one's fucking rules and once I am successful saving my mother, I can quietly take my leave.

I took a deep breath and forced a smile on my lips. My makeup skills were as an eight year old girl's but hopefully I had done justice to my face. The dark circles were concealed and no part of my face showed that I had been crying for long hours, maybe full days, before I came here.

"Good afternoon, I am here to meet Mr. Archibald." I spoke politely to the man on watch in his cabinet by the gate.

Usually there used to be three but today I only found one. Good for me. The fewer the guards the easier for me to move inside.

"Ms. Murthy?" He recognized me.

"I had a meeting with Mr. Archibald this afternoon." I lied as I flashed a persuasive grin.

"Could you give me a second, Miss Murthy? I'll ask his PA if he has any meetings scheduled at his house."

"Yes, sure." Fuck, I didn't think he would want to call Stanley's PA.

If he connects with him, he would learn that I am lying and put me in a tight spot. Stanley Archibald might find it weird and become discreet. Not to include that I have no one taking my back now. So if anything happens, I will be completely in trouble.

Hence, I dragged another breath to keep myself strong as I coughed, "It was supposed to be an informal meeting."

The guard turned around with the receiver of a telephone five inches away from his ear. His expression didn't give away much and I prayed that my nervous body language was not at the show for eyes to easily observe it.

I tried not to look freaked out as I gave him one of my best dulcet smiles. He didn't move for a good five seconds then dropped the receiver in its place. Pressing a button on a keyboard that was full of colorful buttons, he motioned for me to come inside as the gates moved asunder.

"Welcome, Miss Murthy."

Thanking him, I hurried inside before he noticed anything odd about my demeanor. I practiced deep breathing to regain my composure. All of this I experienced in the last twenty-four hours has taken a toll on me. I needed to get a grip on myself and concentrate on my mission ahead.

When I entered the mansion, I was a completely different Nandini. My heart was beating calmly, my gait was mysteriously confident, my face was radiating with the glow an ambitious woman my age has on her face when she goes out to meet influential people and obviously a joyful grin lighting up my face, adding more color and boldness to my overall features.
