34. I Want Us To Be Together

Alpha Manik's POV

This must be a nightmare! Nandini with Vinay... She couldn't. They wouldn't... Ugh, I can't believe my eyes.

I rubbed my eyes aggressively and looked at them again.

Under the pouring sky they laughed and ran behind each other. Vinay was shirtless and as the water trailed down his brown skin, his toned muscles glistened. Nandini's perfect figure was covered with a tight baby pink, full sleeved, night gown that flowed around her as she turned and twisted.

My eyes burnt at the view of a nicely dressed Nandini chirping like a baby sparrow around Vinay. I don't think I have ever seen her beam like this.

She reminded me of the eruption of first few bright rays of the sun. As they burst over the horizon and spread like a sheet of glitter on the buildings and green ground, Nandini's face glowed up. Her lips stretched from ear to ear. It is something I have never seen happen in my existence.

Was that because I was annoying?

Or because Vinay was better than me?

I don't know what the reason was, one thing was certain I didn't like it. Though I would love to see her burst into such smiles, it was happening around Vinay. It was apparently the outcome of Vinay's efforts.

"You can never catch me, Vinay." She chimed and her voice filtered through the trails of rain drops and stung my ears like a beeping sound.

I was annoyed. My fingers curled at my sides as I glared at Nandini squeal delightfully around him.

Vinay's excitement extended in the air and hit me. He was enjoying her company.

"I think I caught you several times already, didn't I?" He said and ran behind her again.

Nandini shrieked as he was about to take her hand. She quickly bent down and twisted around to take another root. Vinay, nevertheless, leapt towards her and with his right hand going under her waist, he pulled her behind.

This caused the both of them to fall on the ground. With nandini on his stomach. "See, I told you I can catch you if I want." Vinay said before they both cracked up, loudly, and on top of their voices.

In that moment, I saw a sizzling chemistry between the two. My nerves burnt at the realization. They both look Into each other's eyes not caring to get up, let alone get away from each other.

It seemed like she was comfortable sitting in his lap as her completely drenched back pressed against Vinay's bare torso.

He’s in total contrast to me. Where I am all anger, brimstone, sharp edges, with a tongue venomous than a viper's; Vinay is soft, almost like a stuffed squishy teddy bear, his words kind, his eyes warm. His gestures are gentle and he respects everyone with equal kindness.

'He's perfect hybrid wolf, isn't he? Should you commit mistakes, he is going to replace you as the next alpha.' My wolf seethed in my chest.

A gust of wind carried big drops of water that hurt harder than slaps as they struck my face. Shaking my head left and right, I stepped out into the garden. Soft grasses tickled my feet. I walked quietly towards them as I tried not to show disappointment on my face.

"Looks like you are having a good and fun-filled morning, Vinay?!" I said in a low soft voice, as I forced my brows to arch up in amazement.

"Alpha Manik," Vinay respectfully coasted Nandini on the grassy bed and got up on his two feet.

He chewed the insides of his cheeks and ran a hand through his hair. There was no hesitation in his demeanour. He was as confident as always. But Nandini... from the corner of my eyes, I observed her cringe her nose and look everywhere around but me.

She restlessly pinched and scratched her fingers ad if she was dying to get away from me. I have expected this from her. But the sudden change of expressions made my veins rush with boiling blood.

Just a few seconds ago, she was glowing like a star and as I interrupted their cute little romantic moment, her face turned pale and eyes lowered to the ground. I scented her discomfiture. My wolf growled in my chest but I controlled him as Vinay parted his lips to say,

"No.. No.. There's nothing going on between me and Nandini, Alpha. She was just sad and I thought to brighten up her mood." He blurted without looking at Nandini.

His lips stretched side says before he raised his eyebrows and shook his head, gesturing me that they were just friends. I would never doubt Vinay. I may get jealous since he is a hybrid but he is loyal. He is focused on his career as the pack's soldier.

He's also once shared with me that he is already seeing someone. They keep having s*x every now and then. I didn't ask him who the girl is, but he assured she a strong she-wolf.

"I know there's nothing between you two." I faked a scoff and glared at Nandini. "Nobody can have a thing with an irritating woman like her."

She quickly lifted her fallen lashes and stared at me with her mouth dropping. Her eyes expressed her shock yet I showed as if I meant every word I said. I don't want Vinay to scent my jealousy for Nandini. I want to be the same old ruthless Alpha to her across everyone, and to make it look normal between us, I said more mean things about her.

"Humans are useless and always lazy. I don't want you to become like her, Vinay. I see you carving your name on the golden pages of history of our pack. Don't waste your time on her."

Tears welled up in her eyes. Nandini controlled them and looked below to hide her tears. My heart impulsively throbbed and my breathing turned heavy. I maintained a poker face as I ordered Vinay to go inside the house and prepare to leave for his training.

"Nandini," Just as I moved towards her, she threw at me a scathing look and pushed me behind. "I am sorry but,"

"You are a filthy dog." She sobbed.

"I know that was hurtful but,"

"But you couldn't control yourself from humiliating me, right?"

"Hell, no," I tried to take her hand.

She whimpered and slapped by hand away before she flinched backwards. She stopped when there was at least five steps distance between her.

"First you harass me, then you insult me. You are more pathetic than I have imagined you to be." My wolf growled at the choice of her words.

Dog. Pathetic. She was making me feel worse than a rogue. Not to mention the term 'dog' for an alpha wolf is like a stain. I gulped in order to keep my frustration for being wronged in control as I forcibly caught her elbow.

"What are you... Let go of me. Let go," She banged her fist on my arm to free herself.

I pulled her inside the mansion and against a wall such that she was trapped between the wall and me. I grasped her chin in my hold and made her look into my eyes, "I may be pathetic and not very likable, Nandini, but I truly like you. I want us to be together."

With a chilly edge to my voice, I spilled the desires of my heart. And oh, she was stunned so much that her nipples poked and I sensed them harden against the plains of my chest.
