119. Nandini is not dead
Nandini's POV
I was working in the farm when my phone vibrated in my pocket. It was the Principal calling again.
I closed my eyes and blew out a heave as it wasn't too long ago when I was called to school by her. After all, my son was a little devil who liked to cause chaos to others for even thinking about harming him.
Preparing myself for another visit to school, I hit the green call icon and put the phone to my ear, "Good afternoon, Mrs. Watchman. What is it that Mahir did this time?"
A small smile cracked on my lips as I anticipated her reply coming with a long sigh. She always does that before telling me about my son and his mischief.
"Miss Banks, I assure you there's nothing to worry about. However, a small accident has taken place in school." I dropped the tool I was using and focused solely on the Principal's voice that was coming slowly from the phone.
I removed it from my ear and stared at it. I wasn't sure what the accident was about. But the thought of it having something to do with Mahir made blood run cold in my veins.
"Oh my god, I hope everything is okay."
"Everything's fine, Miss Banks." I raised a hand to my heart as her words sounded otherwise anything but fine.
"Is Mahir alright, Mrs. Watchman?" I asked as the heaviness in my chest began to intensify.
"I'll tell you everything for sure, Miss Banks. Could you please come to the hospital first?"
The hospital? My palms began to sweat. Taking long breaths I composed myself and focused on the conversation.
"Okay, okay. I'm on my way. But, Mrs. Watchman, are you sure Mahir is okay? Why would you ask me to come—"
"Miss Banks, please come to the hospital first. I assure you it's nothing to worry about." She reiterated the same words, making my teeth clench.
I cut the call and jumped into my car. Turley was parking her truck when I fired up the engine.
"What's wrong, Nandini? You look like someone hit you in the face with a hammer?" She screamed from her truck as she was still inside.
"Oh Turley, I don't know what to say," I pressed my lips together to stop them from trembling. "Mahir's Principal just called and she asked me to visit the hospital."
"The hospital? Is Mahir alright?"
The hell I know. I shook my head and told her what the Principal told me which was nothing.
"I'm behind you, Sweety. Don't fret out. I'm sure our little dude is okay." She said and ignited her engine. "But as usual he might have caused a bloody mess on some other little demon."
I hope that's what it really is.
The hospital was not far away from the school and there was no traffic so we reached here in five minutes. Turley and I came out of our vehicles to find Principal Watchman and Mahir's homeroom teacher waiting for us outside the hospital gate.
Their visages were marred with fear and the lines on their foreheads caused me a little heart attack. Anyhow I gathered myself together and stopped in front of them.
"What is it, Mrs. Watchman? The way you called me... I was just... It made me worry... I... " I was breathing heavily.
"Is everything okay, Mrs. Watchman? Where is Mahir?" Turley picked up from where I left.
Much to my surprise, she was as composed like a royal king's guard. Turley managed to ask questions that my rising apprehension made difficult to verbalize.
