Chapter 37: All the Memories of the Dream That's Built To Last
Andy's POV
"Brielle! Oh my god, honey!" Her mom exclaimed as she burst into her room. She rushed to Brielle's bedside and grabbed her hand, kissing her forehead.
"Hi mom." Brielle said with a small smile.
"Oh, how are you feeling?" She asked, rubbing her arm.
"I'm fine. The pain meds they gave me are helping." She said.
"Oh my poor baby." She said, rubbing her shoulder.
"Seriously mom, I'm fine. You did not need to rush all the way out here."
"We most certainly did. Our baby is hurt! We needed to be here, to help!"
"Well thank you for coming." She said and then looked at her dad. "Hi dad."
"Hi honey." He smiled, grabbing her hand as he stood next to me. He placed his hand on my shoulder and smiled at me.
"Thank you for taking care of her." Her dad said.
"I promised you I would." I said with a smile. "I just wish I had done a better job." I said, my voice cracking, handing my head.
"Andy, what do you mean? You got her here! You saved her life!" Her mom exclaimed.
"She's been sick all week. She thought it was just the flu, but she was really really sick. She wouldn't let me take her to the doctor or hospital or anything. I-I should've just forced her to the hospital." I said, shaking my head.
"Andy, you couldn't have forced me to do anything. If you haven't noticed, I'm stubborn." Brielle chuckled slightly.
"You were so weak, you couldn't have fought me if I carried you to the car. I-I've been Googling this condition, and this surgery could've been avoided if I had taken you in sooner!"
"Andy." Her dad said. "You did the best you could with the information you had at the time. You had no reason to believe she had anything besides the flu. She's alive, she's okay, you saved her." He said.
"Thank you sir." I said, wiping the tears that had pooled in my eyes.
"What's recovery going to look like?" Her mom asked.
"2 weeks strict bedrest. Six full weeks of recovery. She'll have periodic check-ups to evaluate her progress. She can return to work when she begins to feel better." I said.
"Well, we'll be here to help however we can, for however long we're needed." Her mom said with a smile.
"Thank you. The good thing about my abnormal job, is I don't need to take time off or have a rush to return. We don't leave for tour until January, and she should be back to her normal self by then." I said with a smile.
"Well, I'll take you back to the house so you can put your luggage into the guest room." I told her dad as I stood up. "Do you mind staying here with Brielle?" I asked her mom.
"Of course not." She smiled.
"Okay, I'll be right back darling." I said, giving Brielle a small kiss.
"Andy, don't come back if you don't feel like it. Take care of yourself. Get some sleep in a good bed." She said.
"You're being released tomorrow. I'll get all the sleep I need when you're home. I'll be back. I love you."
"I love you too." She smiled. Her dad and I walked out of her room, down the hall, and out of the hospital. We walked to their rental car and he looked at me.
"Do you mind driving?" He asked.
"Not at all." He threw me the keys and we got into the car. We drove in a comfortable silence back to the house. We went to the back of the car and I helped him grab the suitcases out of the trunk. We walked up to the front door and I unlocked it. I led him up to the guest room and we placed the suitcases down.
"I'll be back. I need to pack a bag for Brielle and I." I told him. I left the room and walked into my bedroom. I grabbed a pair of sweats and one of her larger T-Shirts, figuring they would be easy to get on her and comfortable for her. I changed into a clean pair of sweatpants and a T-Shirt since I had spent many hours and tears in the clothes I was in. I packed myself an extra pair of clothes just in case and then slung the bag over my shoulder. I walked out of the room and back to her dad.
"Do you want to stay here and rest?" I asked.
"No, I'm good." He smiled. We left the house and I locked it before we got back in the car. I drove us back to the hospital and we walked back inside the building, to Brielle's room. I sat in a chair in the corner of the room, giving her parents time with Brielle without having to move around me.
"We're going to get going. We will be back tomorrow." Her mom smiled.
"Okay, thank you for coming. I love you." Brielle smiled.
"We love you too honey. We'll always be here for you." She said. Her dad said goodbye to her and then left. I rested my head on Brielle's shoulder and grabbed her hand.
"I love you so much." I said quietly.
"I love you too." She said, kissing the top of my head.
