Chapter 87: Don't Want To Wait Cause You're Never Coming Back

Andy's POV

*Two Weeks Later*

"I think that's everything," I sighed as I walked out of the house.

"You ready?" my dad asked.

"Yes and no," I laughed, running my fingers through my hair. "But it has to happen sometime, right?" I asked and my dad nodded with a laugh.

Today, we were starting the drive to LA. With Madi's immune system still being lower, we decided to drive to LA rather than fly. Am I excited for a multi-day road trip with an infant? Not in the slightest. It's a 30 hour trip, so it will definitely take a few days to get there. We're planning on making it to Oklahoma City today, so we need to get leaving as soon as possible.

I was standing in the driveway when I saw a car pull up. I recognized it as Brielle's parents' car just as the two of them got out.

"We came to say goodbye to Madi," her mom said.

"Let me go get her," I said, walking back into the house. Her parents had been by a few times to spend time with Madi while she's been out of the hospital. I know they're having a hard time with me going back to LA, but I need to go back. I picked up Madi from her bassinet and carried her outside. I handed the sleeping infant to Brielle's mom who held her close.

"We're really going to miss both of you," her mom said.

"I'll make sure to bring her by when I come back to visit. You guys are also always welcome to come to LA."

"Thank you," her dad smiled as Madi was passed to him. After a while, Madi was passed back to me.

"I promise I'll send lots of pictures," I said, opening up the backseat to strap Madi into her carseat.

"Please do!" her mom exclaimed. Once Madi was strapped in, I turned around to see Brielle's mom walking towards me. When she got to me, she hugged me. I hugged her back and then gave her dad a hug.

"Please take care of our girl," her dad said to me.

"I promise," I said with a smile. They waved goodbye as they got back in their car and drove away.

"Are we ready to go?" my mom asked.

"I think so," I said. My parents got in the front seat while I got in the backseat with Madi. Since today was a 12 hour day, my dad would be driving the first half and I would be driving the second half.

My breath hitched in my throat as my dad pulled into my driveway. The last time I was home, was when Brielle and I were leaving for Christmas. My bit on my lip as I glanced down at Madi who was playing with her toes. I may no longer have Brielle, but Madi and I were returning to make a new life for ourselves, a new start. I left this house as a husband and a father-to-be, and I'm returning as a widower and a father.

The extremely long drive was pretty uneventful. There was an entire hour in the middle of nowhere where Madi would not stop screaming. I felt like I needed a nap myself once I finally got her to calm down enough to fall asleep.

My dad had already got out of the car and had started to unpack the car, carrying things to the porch. My mom turned around and placed her hand on my knee.

"You've got this," she said with a soft smile.

"Yeah," I said, letting out a breath. I got out of the car and went around to Madi's side. I lifted her out of her car seat and carried her up to the front door. I fished my keys out of my pocket and searched until I found my house key. I put it into the lock and turned it, hearing the door click. I turned the knob and pushed the door opened. I stood on the porch, staring down the entry way for a second. Everything inside the house had remained unchanged, while my entire life had changed.
