Chapter 73: Hospital
Brielle's POV
"Do you want me to cancel our flight?" Andy asked, coming into the room and sitting at the edge of the bed.
"No," I said quietly, shaking my head. I had woken up with a splitting headache and was throwing up.
"I don't feel comfortable flying home with you like this," he said softly, his blue eyes filled with worry. We were supposed to fly home today, but I could barely get out of the bed.
"I feel bad about extending our stay with your parents,"
"Don't feel bad, you're sick. They won't mind," he said, rubbing my belly.
"Okay," I agreed. He nodded and pulled out his phone, cancelling our flight. As he was doing so, I leaned over and threw up into the trash can next to me.
"Brielle, please let me take you to the hospital," he begged.
"I'm okay, I'm just sick. I'm pregnant, it happens." He took off the covers and ran his hands down my legs.
"Your legs are swollen, babe."
"Again, it's from pregnancy and travel."
"I don't think this is normal," he said, shaking his head and stood up. He ruffled through the suitcase before pulling out the dreaded machine.
"Ugh," I groaned as he wrapped the cuff around my arm.
"I'm taking your blood pressure and if it's concerning, we're going to the hospital." He said as he turned on the machine.
"You're not a doctor, Andy,"
"Well you won't let me take you to one!" he grumbled. "180/120, we're going," he said, tossing the machine to the ground and scooping me up.
"Andy!" I whined.
"Brielle, normal is 120/80. I'm not taking no for an answer," he said as he left the room and started down the stairs.
"Andy?" his mom questioned.
"I'm taking Brielle to the hospital, her blood pressure is extremely high and I'm concerned," he said as he slipped on some shoes.
"Do you want us to drive you?" his dad asked.
"That would be great," he said. His dad grabbed his keys and the four of us went out to the car. Andy got in the backseat with me while his parents got in the front seat. Andy sat against the door and laid my head in his lap as I curled up in the back seat. They started driving while Andy stroked my hair.
"My head," I groaned, the sunlight making me headache twice as worse.
"I'm going to call your parents," Andy grumbled, putting his phone to his ear. "Hey, it's Andy. Brielle's really sick and her blood pressure is extremely high, so I'm taking her to the hospital. Alright, thanks," he said and hung up. "They're going to meet us there," Andy cooed to me softly. We made it to the hospital and Andy's parents pulled up to the front. Andy carried me inside while they went to go look for parking.
"My wife is 7 months pregnant and she's sick. She's got a bad headache, she's throwing up, her legs are swollen, and her blood pressure was 180/120." Andy said in a panicked voice.
"Okay sir, please go find a seat and fill these out. Someone will be with you shortly," the nurse said in a monotone voice.
"But, my wife needs help!" Andy cried out.
"It's an emergency room sir, lots of people need help," she responded. Andy grumbled and grabbed the clipboard, carrying us over to two empty chairs. He sat me down in a chair while he sat next to me, beginning to fill out the information on the clipboard. I curled up in the chair, trying to shield my eyes from the painful, fluorescent lights. His parents rushed in and looked surprised to see us just sitting there.
"Why haven't you guys been taken back?" Amy asked, concerned.
"Because they won't fucking give a shit!" Andy snapped.
"Andy, it's okay," I spoke up in a weak voice.
"No it's not," he said, biting down hard on his lip. Chris grumbled and stormed up to the reception desk.
"My daughter-in-law needs to be seen! This is her life and her baby's life we're talking about!" Chris demanded.
"Sir, if you don't go sit down, I'm going to have security remove you," the same nurse responded. Chris stomped back over to us, sitting next to his son. Andy finished filling out the clipboard and his mom took it up to the reception desk.
"Brielle! Are you okay?" Her mom asked as her parents rushed into the waiting room.
"I'm fine," I said, desperately wanting to be in a dark room so my headache would lessen.
"No you're not and not a single person in this damn hospital gives a shit!" Andy exclaimed. My mom gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead.
"Brielle Biersack," a different nurse said from the front of the waiting room.
"Finally," Andy growled, standing up and picking me up. He carried me over and the nurse led us out of the waiting room. Andy sat me in a chair and they asked a few questions and took my vitals.
"Your blood pressure is very high," the nurse commented.
"It is! Why did we have to wait out there for 15 minutes when we knew this already?" Andy questioned.
"Sir, I'm sorry, but we're very busy. We're trying the best we can," the nurse said, clasping a hospital bracelet onto my wrist.
"Andy, don't take it out on her," I said, reaching out and grabbing his hand. Another nurse walked over with a wheelchair and Andy helped me into it. They wheeled me to a room and Andy followed.
"Please put on that hospital gown, we will be back to run some tests," the nurse said, leaving the room. Andy helped me out of my clothes and into the thin gown, helping me get settled into the bed. He sat next to my bed, holding my hand as we waited. Finally, a doctor walked in with a nurse behind him.
"Hello Mrs. Biersack, can you explain your symptoms to me?" he asked.
"We've already told two different nurses," Andy snapped.
"Andy babe, if you keep snapping at the staff, they can't help me," I said, rubbing his shoulder before describing my symptoms to the doctor.
"Did your doctor ever diagnose you with preeclampsia?" he asked.
"No, but she said it was a possibility."
"Okay, we're going to do a few blood tests and a urine tests. I'm concerned this could be HELLP syndrome, a rare complication of preeclampsia. If the tests come back positive, we are unfortunately going to have to rush you into an emergency C-section," the doctor explained.
"I-I'm only 7 months, it's too early," I said, shaking my head with tears in my eyes.
"Our NICU team is on alert and ready to receive the baby as soon as they're born. Babies born at 7 months have a very high survival rate. Right now, we are focused on saving you."
"Save my baby," I said, shaking my head.
"Brielle, no. We can make another baby, we can't make another you. Please save her at all costs," Andy begged the doctor.
"We will do our best Mr. Biersack," the doctor reassured. He stepped out of the room to allow the nurse to grab some blood. She helped me grab a urine sample and then took everything to start running tests on it.
"I'm going to go get our parents," he said, standing to leave the room. I threw my head back and let myself break down, holding tight to my stomach.
