Chapter 99: Kindergarten
Andy's POV
*Two Years Later*
I heard footsteps down the stairs and hurried out of the kitchen. I saw Madi walk into the living room and I smiled.
"Good morning my big girl," I said, walking over and hugging her.
"Good morning daddy," she said. She was already dressed in her first day of school outfit that she had picked out last night. Today was her first day of Kindergarten and I had been fighting back tears all morning.
"Go sit at the table, breakfast is almost ready, then I'll do your hair."
"Okay," she said, skipping off to the kitchen table. I put breakfast onto two plates and carried them to the table. I placed her plate in front of her and mine in front of my usual spot. I got us both a glass of juice and brought those to the table as well.
"So, are you excited for your first day of Kindergarten?" I asked her as I sat down.
"Yeah! I sit at the same table as Brianna!" she exclaimed, happily eating her toast. We had gone up to the school yesterday to meet her teacher. The teacher had already labeled the tables with name tags and we discovered that not only was Brianna in her class, but they sat at the same table.
"That's exciting! Make sure you don't talk to much so the teacher doesn't move you," I said and she just smiled at me. I smiled back at her, she's definitely the kid that's going to get in trouble for talking. She has such a large vocabulary and she loves the sound of her own voice, just like me.
"Go to your bathroom and I'll be there in a second," I said as she finished her plate. She got out of her chair and ran upstairs. I grabbed our plates and cups, putting them in the sink. I walked upstairs to see Madi sitting in her "styling chair", as we called it.
I spent all of last year learning different hairstyles to be able to do her hair when she went to school. Luckily, long hair wasn't a foreign concept to me, as I've spent many years with long hair. Unfortunately, my experience with long hair usually only involved a teasing comb and a flat iron, neither of which I would be using on my five year old daughter.
"So Miss Madi, what would we like?" I asked as I started brushing her shoulder length blonde hair.
"Curls," Madi said with a giggle.
"Good thing we've got the time," I said, plugging in the curling iron that was under her sink. I kept brushing her hair as I waited for the curling iron to heat up, ensuring I got out all of the tangles. The curling iron heated up and I focused on the small strands of hair, making sure the curls fell how she wanted them.
"Daddy, you look funny," Madi giggled. I realized my tongue was sticking out of my mouth as I was focusing on curling her hair.
"Hush you, I'm focusing," I laughed as I finished curling the strand I was working on.
"How does it look princess?" I asked once I was done, putting the curling iron down on the counter.
"Perfect!" she squealed. I smiled and kissed the top of her head, unplugging the curling iron.
"Good, because we need to get going," I said, helping her down from the chair. We walked downstairs and I put her shoes on her feet. I picked up her backpack and my car keys.
I opened the front door and we walked out to the car. I opened the backseat door and she climbed in, buckling herself into her car seat. I placed her backpack next to her and then checked that she was bucked in properly. I got into the driver's seat and unlocked my phone.
