Chapter 103: Mother's Day

Andy's POV

*Two Months Later*

I was standing at the pick-up area to see my angry daughter stomping towards me.

"Oh boy, what happened?" I asked, bending down to her height. I picked her up and looked to see her teacher walking towards me.

"Hello Mr. Biersack," she greeted. Madi dug her face into my shoulder and I felt my T-Shirt start to get wet from her tears.

"What happened?" I asked.

"She missed out on free time today because she refused to complete an assignment. If she comes to school and decides not to do it tomorrow, she will need to take it home to complete it," the teacher explained. I looked at my daughter with a surprised look and then back at the teacher. She's never had a single complaint from her teacher, except that she's a little talkative.

"Thank you, I'll talk to her," I said as I turned and walked towards the car. I rubbed Madi's back as she continued to cry. I got to the car and strapped her in, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked and she shook her head. I sighed and closed the car door, getting in the driver's seat. She cried the entire way home, my gut feeling like something was really wrong.

We got home and I carried her in the house, straight to the living room. I put her down on the couch and sat next to her. Her crying had been limited to a few sniffles at this point.

"Madi, what happened? You never get in trouble?"

"My teacher is stupid," she mumbled.

"Madi, we don't say that about people."

"She's mean," she said, crossing her arms over her chest as she pouted.

"Madi, you have one more chance to tell me what happened before I call her."

"We're making presents and I wanted to make one for you but she wouldn't let me so I didn't do it," she said.

"Presents for what?"

"Mother's Day," she said quietly. My breath caught in my throat. I hadn't even thought about the fact that school's celebrate Mother's Day.

"What'd your teacher say?"

"She gave us the paper and I told her I couldn't give the gift to my mommy because my mommy is in heaven. I said I wanted to make it for my daddy. She said I could make it for a grandma or an aunt, but we don't see grandma until Christmas."

"Why don't you make it for Sienna?"

"She's already getting one from Brianna. I want to do one for you, you're like my mommy and my daddy."

"You'll have a chance to make something for me next month for Father's Day."

"That's a day? Yay!" she squealed with excitement.

"Make it for your mommy."

"What? But you said we can't go to heaven? How do I give it to her?"

"When she left, she had to leave her body behind. Her body is in a place we can visit. We'll go see her for mother's day, how does that sound?" I asked.

"Wait...we can see her?" she asked, a freaked out look on her face.

"Not really. There's a stone with her name on it that we can go visit her at. I haven't taken you since you were a baby, but I think you're ready," I said with a smile.

When Mother's Day rolled around, I took Madi to the cemetery to visit Brielle. Before going to the cemetery, I stopped at the store and let Madi pick out a bouquet of flowers. She had gone back to school the next day and completed the Mother's Day project. I was slightly annoyed with her teacher for not letting her do the project for me like she wanted. I mean, she's a six year old with a dead mom, give her some slack. I didn't fight it though since I felt like I solved the issue at home.

We got to the cemetery and I carried Madi to where Brielle was buried. I set her down in front of the tombstone and sat next to her.

"This is mommy?" Madi asked, pointing to the stone.

"Yeah, that's mommy's name," I said, pointing to where her name was engraved on the stone.

"Wait," she said, reaching forward and tracing the letters in 'Brielle'. "That's my middle name," she said with a confused look.

"It is, I gave you your mommy's name as your middle name," I explained. She reached out and traced the letters in my name.

"What's this?" she asked.

"My name."

"But...but..." she said, a panicked look crossing her face as she looked between the tombstone and me.

"In a long, long time, I'm talking like a hundred years, I'll have to leave my body too. I'll be with your mommy and you'll come visit both of us right here," I explained, trying not to freak her out.

"A long, long time?" she asked.

"A long, long time. I promise. You are stuck with me for a while, bug," I laughed, kissing the top of her head. "Put her present right there," I said, pointing to where the tombstone met the grass. She placed her card down and I put the flowers next to it.

"I miss you mommy," Madi said quietly.
