Chapter 94: First Christmas
Andy's POV
*One Month Later*
"Fuck," I sighed, resting my head against the headrest in the car. This week was about to be one of the happiest and saddest of my life. This week was Christmas which brought a lot of happiness due to it being Madi's first Christmas and her first birthday as well. Along with that though, comes the anniversary of Brielle's death.
I had arrived in Ohio with Madi about an hour ago and was currently sitting in Brielle's parents' driveway. I would be spending today and tomorrow, which was Christmas Eve with them. The morning of Christmas Day, I would be heading over to my parents' house to spend Christmas and our birthdays with them.
This is the first time I was spending time with Brielle's parents without Brielle and I was so nervous. I'm not a sociable person and with the anniversary coming up, I wanted as few reminders of Brielle as possible. Unfortunately, her parents' home is filled with a tremendous memories. I was hoping Madi would be the main source of attention and I could blend in to the background.
I finally convinced myself to get out of the car and grabbed my suitcase from the trunk of my rental car. I unstrapped Madi from her car seat and rested her on my hip as I walked up to the door. I let go of the suitcase so I could knock on the door.
"Andy! You should've called me when you got here! I could've helped!" Brielle's mom exclaimed, taking Madi from my arms the moment she opened the door.
"Is there anything else?" Brielle's dad asked.
"Nope, thank you though." I said, walking into the house.
"Oh, I can't believe you're about to be one!" Brielle's mom cooed to Madi as she peppered her face with kisses.
"Just a few more days for my birthday buddy," I chuckled, reaching out and tickling Madi's side, making her giggle.
"Oh yeah, I always forget your birthday is so close to Christmas!" Brielle's mom said and I nodded.
"Dada!" Madi reached out towards me.
"Is that her first word?" Brielle's mom asked with wide eyes.
"Yes and no, she's been saying that for the last week," I said as I took Madi back into my arms. "She can also say no. No, no," I cooed to Madi in a funny voice.
"No!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands with a smile, making all of us laugh.
"Is she walking yet?" Brielle's dad asked.
"Not yet, but she's getting close. She's pulling herself to her feet a lot."
"Oh, I wish you lived closer! I miss having a baby around!" Brielle's mom said. I just chuckled, not quite knowing what to say.
"Can you hold her while I take my suitcase upstairs?" I asked.
"Of course! I also bought her a Christmas Eve outfit and it's on the bed." she explained, grabbing Madi back from me. I grabbed my suitcase and started heading towards the stairs.
"Oh Brian, show Andy what room he's staying in," Brielle's mom said and I heard footsteps on the stairs behind me. I glanced back to see Brielle's mom giving me a soft smile. "We figured your usual room would be too difficult."
"Thanks," I said quietly, continuing up the stairs. Once we got to the top, I let her dad lead me to the new room. He opened the door and stepped to the side, allowing me to walk in. I thanked him and he nodded before leaving. I rested the suitcase on the wall and saw the pack and play that her parents had bought was set up in a corner of the room. I looked at the bed and saw the outfit she was referencing. I set it to the side and sat on the bed, letting out a sigh.
