Chapter 40: Two Weeks
Brielle's POV
*One Week Later*
"You ready to go?" Andy asked.
"Well, I don't have anything else going on." I laughed, gesturing to my spot in the bed. I had my next doctor's appointment today and this one is supposed to clear me and get me off bed rest, so I was pretty excited and hopeful. Andy lifted me up and carried me down the stairs. We said goodbye to my parents as Andy carried me out to the car. He laid me in the passenger seat and went to the driver's side.
We got to the hospital and he parked. He lifted me out of the car and carried me into the hospital.
"Appointment for Brielle Adams." He told the front desk.
"Someone will be out to get you soon. Take a seat and I'll get you a wheelchair." She said, standing up. Andy took us over to empty chairs in the waiting room and sat me in a chair, sitting himself down next to me. A minute later, the nurse showed up with a wheelchair. Andy thanked her and took the wheelchair, sitting it next to us. We sat and waited for my name to be called.
"Brielle Adams." A nurse called, walking into the waiting room. Andy stood up and put the brakes on my wheelchair. He helped me stand up and guided me into the wheelchair. I sat down and he undid the brakes, pushing me to the nurse. She guided us through the hallways and to an empty room. Andy pushed the wheelchair to the bed and lifted me onto the bed. I laid down and Andy sat in a chair next to me as we waited.
"Hello Brielle, how are you doing?" My surgeon asked as he walked in.
"Better than last week." I smiled.
"That's good to hear." He said, washing his hands and turning to face me. "Go ahead and lift up your shirt, let me take a look at your incision." He said, walking over to me. I lifted my shirt to reveal my incision and he ran his cold fingers over it, making shivers go down my spine. "It's healing beautifully. Are you still taking the pain medication?"
"Yes, but very rarely. Maybe a dose every few days."
"Good, good." He smiled. "I feel comfortable with taking you off of bed rest, but I need you to listen to your body. Don't push yourself too hard. If it hurts, stop, rest."
"Oh my god, yes. Thank you! So, I can walk out of here?" I asked excitedly.
"It's a pretty long walk to the exit, so I'd still like you to leave in a wheelchair. Other than that, walk wherever you want." He laughed. "Any concerns you'd like to bring up with me?" He asked.
"I think I'm good." I said.
"Alright, I'll see you in 2 weeks for your 4 week appointment. If you can, I'd like you to hold off from returning to work until after that appointment."
"Okay." I said, nodding.
"I will see you in 2 weeks. Have a good day." He smiled as he left the room. I pulled down my shirt and Andy helped me out of the bed and into the wheelchair. He wheeled me out of the room and down the hall. A nurse followed us out to stay with me while Andy pulled the car around. He pulled the car up and he helped me out of the wheelchair, allowing me to walk the few steps to the car. He helped me get settled and then the nurse took the wheelchair away. He got back in the driver's seat and drove us home. He pulled in to the driveway and turned off the car.
"I want to walk into the house." I told him.
"Okay." He said, getting out and coming around to my side. He helped me out and walked behind me as I walked up to the front door.
"Guess who's walking!" Andy exclaimed as I opened the door.
"That's so great!" My mom exclaimed, walking up to me and hugging me. My dad came up behind me and hugged me as well.
"You feeling good?" My dad asked.
"I get better every day." I laughed. "I'm going to go sit on the couch, I am so sick of that bedroom!" I walked to the living room and sat on the couch, Andy sitting next to me. My parents sat on the other couch.
"I am so glad you are feeling better. You definitely scared us." My mom said.
"It scared me too, trust me."
"Well, we are headed home on Friday. Do you think you guys will be fine if we leave?"
"I think it'll be easier now that I'm not on bed rest. You guys need to get back home and get back to your lives." I said.
*A Few Days Later*
"I think the car is all loaded up." My dad said. I smiled at my mom and gave her a long hug.
"Thank you for coming out here and helping us out." I said, loud enough so my dad could hear.
"You're our baby girl, we will always be here for you, no matter how old you get." My mom said. I let go of her and hugged my dad as Andy went to hug my mom.
"I know we had a bit of a rough patch, but I want to let you guys know how grateful I am for all of your help these couple weeks. It made a huge difference." Andy said as he finished his hug with my mom and went to hug my dad. "If you ever want to come back, our house is always open to you."
"That means a lot Andy, thank you." My dad said. We said our last goodbyes and walked them out to their rental car. They got in and we watched as they drove away. Andy and I walked back in and sat on the couch.
"Your parents are so nice and helpful, but I am so happy to have our house back to ourselves." He laughed.
"Thank you for being so good to them." I smiled, kissing his lips.
