Fu Weilun looked at Fu Xiao with a gentle gaze and asked, "Why are you home alone? Where's your older brother?"

"Big Brother is asleep," Fu Xiao replied.

Remembering the chicken soup in the space, Fu Xiao hurried to the kitchen. "Uncle San, could you please call Big Brother? He's in the first room on the second floor."

Seeing the man head upstairs, Fu Xiao felt relieved and quickly transferred the chicken soup from the space to the pot on the stove outside, adding a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.

A few minutes later, Fu Xiao set the dishes on the dining table just as the two men came downstairs.

"Little sister, why didn't you wake me for the meal?" Fu Yu asked as he took the steamed buns from her and placed them on the table.

"Cooking is easy; I can handle it myself. Besides, this meal was taught to me by Grandpa. You wouldn't know how to make it."

Fu Weilun, savoring the aroma of the chicken soup, looked at the blushing girl and asked, "Did you put ginseng in it?"

Fu Xiao looked surprised. "Uncle San, how did you know?"

Fu Weilun pointed to his nose. "When I was sick as a child, Grandpa made me drink this. I can recognize it by smell."

Fu Yu tasted the soup and exclaimed, "Delicious! You're quite the cook, little sister."

Seeing the dishes on the table, Fu Weilun couldn't help but smile. The food was excellent, and this niece was overly considerate.

The main course was pre-prepared steamed buns made from a blend of two flours. The three of them enjoyed a bowl of chicken soup each, along with braised pork, scrambled eggs, and vegetables. Half of the chicken soup was left, which could be saved for dinner as chicken noodle soup.

Fu Xiao ate quietly, contemplating that their surprise at seeing ginseng and such good dishes showed they were not overly concerned or disappointed by her spending. This suggested that these dishes were common in their household.

So, life back home might not be as hard as she imagined?

After all, the family members were either officials or soldiers.

It probably wasn't as difficult as she thought.

After the meal, as usual, it was Fu Yu who cleaned the table and washed the dishes.

...

The remaining two relaxed on the sun loungers in the yard.

"Uncle San, did you inquire at the hospital? Were the procedures complicated?" Fu Xiao asked.

Fu Weilun paused his rocking of the lounger and replied slowly, "It's not complicated. I've already taken care of it. We'll need to visit the neighborhood committee this afternoon."

Fu Yu, having finished cleaning the kitchen, joined the discussion. "Uncle San, should we also visit the school?"

Fu Weilun rubbed his temples, his voice still calm. "Yes, we need to go."

He furrowed his brow and gazed at the sky for a long time, his eyes filled with confusion and a hint of worry.

Recalling what he saw at the hospital and the information he gathered from classmates, he closed his eyes and thought, "We need to leave quickly. It seems we can't stay in Shanghai any longer..."
