Fu Xiao took out a prepared wooden stick from her space and struck Xiao Jun's left leg hard twice. She knew her own strength well enough to ensure these blows would result in at least a compound fracture, leaving him permanently limping.

Seeing his pale face even in his unconscious state, she clicked her tongue in frustration and struck his right leg once more, this time with a bit more control, so it could be healed.

She poked at his lifeless face. "So, you see, people shouldn't commit bad deeds..."

She whistled softly, amused by her own handiwork, then cast one last cold glance at him before leaving the courtyard.

Using the quickest route, she returned to the dormitory, climbed through the back window, showered in her space, changed into an identical set of clothes, and lay down on the bed with her eyes closed.

She quickly fell asleep.

The Next Morning

Fu Xiao was awakened by her elder brother's knocking on the door. After getting up, the two of them planned to have breakfast with Fu Weilun before heading back home.

Fu Yu first drove her to a state-run restaurant to pick up some breakfast, then they went straight to the county committee office with the food.

When they arrived, it was still early, and no one was at work yet. As they knocked on Fu Weilun's office door, it was not him who answered but Lu Jianguo, who seemed a bit puzzled.

"Uncle Lu, what are you doing here so early?"

At that moment, Fu Weilun came out from outside. "You're here early. Uncle Lu drank too much last night and stayed here, so he didn't go home..."

Fu Yu said, "That's good. Uncle Lu, have some breakfast before you head out. We brought plenty."

Lu Jianguo smiled and nodded, "Alright..."

Fu Yu placed the breakfast on the table.

As they ate, Fu Xiao thought, "It's a good thing we bought extra buns; otherwise, there might not be enough."

Unbeknownst to her, the two adults eating at the table were casting furtive glances at her while eating.

Fu Xiao, with a smaller appetite, had just finished a bun when she got up to fetch some hot water from the tea room.

At that moment, Wang Zhifeng knocked on the office door.

He entered with an odd expression and leaned close to Fu Weilun, whispering something in his ear.

Listening to Wang Zhifeng, Fu Weilun's expression remained unchanged, but his tone was inscrutable as he asked, "Did you check it out?"

Wang Zhifeng glanced at the others and hesitated for a moment before answering, "Yes, the doctor said the right leg isn't too serious and can be fixed, but the left leg is much worse, and the doctor is helpless."

"Ah, that's terrible... Make sure to have the police station look into it," Fu Weilun said flatly.

Turning to Lu Jianguo, he added, "Uncle Lu, you've finished breakfast; it's time to get to work."

With this, Fu Xiao's expression remained calm, but a hint of concern flashed in her eyes. She thought, "Sorry for causing you trouble, Uncle Lu."

Lu Jianguo, puzzled, asked, "What happened? Who's in trouble?"

Fu Weilun gave Wang Zhifeng a look, and Wang Zhifeng repeated the information briefly.

Fu Weilun spoke softly, "As a government official, Secretary Wang, please arrange for someone to take care of him at the hospital. Let Comrade Xiao know that he should stay in the hospital until his leg is healed. Also, remember to notify his family."
