It was a breezy, sunny day—perfect for traveling.
Early in the morning, Fu Xiao got up, packed everything she had bought, and prepared them for the trip. Shen Xingzhou helped secure the packages on the roof of the car, while the Zhijia family had prepared plenty of food for the journey.
After everything was packed, they gathered for breakfast. Zhijiu had already finished eating and sat at the table, his gaze shifting around before landing on Fu Xiao with a smile. "This time, it'll be a long while before we see each other again..."
With a tone of a senior, he added, "If you need any help, you can contact the people at the small courtyard you visited last time, or just call me..."
Fu Xiao set down her chopsticks, smiling, "Thank you, Uncle Jiu. I'll remember that."
Zhijiu then turned to Shen Xingzhou, his tone more indifferent, "Once you're back in Linshi, remember to take care of the things you need to do. You've had enough leisure time..."
Shen Xingzhou, caught off guard, quickly swallowed a mouthful of water, his peach blossom eyes showing a resigned smile, "Got it."
It wasn't that he'd been idle; it was just that working under Zhijiu's watch made everything seem like leisure time.
The breakfast was filled with more words from Zhijiu than usual, more than he'd spoken in a week.
After breakfast, Fu Xiao strapped on her small bag, and her large backpack was carried by Fu Yu.
They walked out of Zhijia's gate and noticed a military vehicle parked behind the car that was supposed to take them away. Mu Lianshen was leaning against the front of the car.
Dressed entirely in black, Mu Lianshen's stern features were even more striking in the morning light. He stood quietly, exuding an air of distinguished aloofness. As Fu Xiao approached, his stern expression softened, and he walked over to her. "Would you like to ride in my car?"
Fu Xiao smiled gently and said, "No need."
"Alright, then. You all proceed ahead with confidence. I've already sent scouts ahead, and I'll follow behind," Mu Lianshen said, his smile never fading, though his eyes showed a hint of sadness, giving him a somewhat forlorn look.
She nodded slightly and boarded the car in front, not turning back.
She could clearly feel the intense gazes on her back...
But there was no point in exchanging glances. Words were meaningless.
Mu Lianshen turned to the hidden Mu Laoye and said, "Father, let's go. You take care of yourself."
Watching as Fu Xiao's car drove away...
Mu Laoye suppressed his sadness and smiled brightly, "Lianshen, you should follow. Remember what I told you, and don't worry about me."
Although his words were meant for Mu Lianshen, his gaze remained on the car until it was out of sight.
When the car was completely out of view, he turned to Mu Lianshen and gave him a gentle push, urging, "Hurry up, follow them. Don't worry about me; I can take care of myself."
Mu Lianshen got into the car, and the driver started it. He looked out the window at Chen Ye and said, "You keep an eye on things in Beijing."
Chen Ye waved dismissively, assuring him not to worry.
It was early in the morning, and only a true friend would go to such lengths. Chen Ye, who had a wife by his side, was showing a level of commitment that truly spoke to his brotherly love.
