When they arrived in the county, it was still dark.

Mu Lianshen and his group didn't look for a guesthouse but went straight to the house prepared by Lu Yuan.

Mu Lianshen first picked a room for Fu Xiao, checked it to ensure it was reasonably clean, then turned to her and said, "An'an, sleep a little longer. We'll head out once you wake up."

Fu Xiao didn't hesitate. The nap in the car had been quite uncomfortable, and she was a bit tired now.

Watching her lie down and close her eyes, Mu Lianshen quietly left the room.

In the courtyard, he saw Lu Yuan waiting and walked over.

Lu Yuan greeted him with a smile, "Uncle Mu, I'm afraid the county isn't very clean. Staying at a guesthouse might draw attention. This is where we stay while on missions; please make do with it."

"These people don't look like first-time offenders. After so many years, the county should have received reports. Why is there no report? You might need to check with the police," Mu Lianshen said, frowning.

Lu Yuan's expression grew serious as he responded, sneering, "Uncle Mu, you don't know how things are in this county."

"The county committee is a pile of dogshit. Anyone who stays in that position for so long must have connections up top."

Mu Lianshen's brow furrowed deeply as he pondered for a moment. "We should investigate. If we find anything, if necessary, we can directly report it to the provincial committee or hand it over to your superior to handle."

Lu Yuan's face was filled with a sinister smile. "Uncle Mu, I'll go interrogate the suspects now. Please rest."

"Wait," Mu Lianshen called out to him, "Keep your distance, and keep your voice down. Don't wake anyone."

Lu Yuan glanced thoughtfully at Fu Xiao's room and asked with a complex tone, "Uncle Mu, who is this young lady?"

Mu Lianshen gave him a sidelong glance and replied, "My daughter."

Lu Yuan's expression became even more complex, and he smiled faintly. "Uncle, I'll get to work now."

Priorities must be managed. Mu Lianshen's private matters could be learned back home; there were more important issues to address now.

At the place where the suspects were held, Lu Yuan saw a woman cowering in the corner. He raised an eyebrow and said with a smile, "Take that woman aside and interrogate her alone."

After the woman was taken away, Lu Yuan pulled a chair over and sat in the middle.

He glanced at the bandits, crossed his legs, and said coldly, "Let's talk. Who are you? How many people have you robbed? What else have you done..."

After a few seconds of silence, he looked down, pulled the unconscious man over, splashed him with a basin of water to wake him, and said in a chilling tone, "Speak up. Who are you?"

The man moaned in pain but refused to answer.

Lu Yuan expressionlessly placed his hand on the man's wound, listening to his agonized cries.

Seeing the terrified expressions of the others, he smiled slightly. "I'm not like ordinary soldiers. We have no discipline... There are many situations where people die because of my heavy-handedness. Who among you wants to be the first to try?"

The man passed out from the pain.

Lu Yuan casually walked over to the others, approached one, and squeezed his arm. "What about you? Will you talk?"
