"Old Mu, it's fine. Stop waiting and come in to rest a bit. Your son will be back once he's done with his work," a graceful elderly woman came out of the bedroom and tried to lead the old man back inside.

Mu Hongtao frowned and took a sip of his tea. "No need, I'll wait a bit longer."

As the sky grew darker, the middle-aged man knocked on the door to the man's room. "Lian Shen, it's getting dark. We should head back to the compound."

The man opened the door, and the middle-aged man entered, noticing the heavy smell of smoke in the room, which indicated that he hadn't rested much and had been smoking continuously. He sighed and said nothing.

The man quickly dressed, packed his military uniform, and took his things with him.

Seeing what he was carrying, the middle-aged man frowned. "Are you planning to rush back to the military district tonight?"

The man ignored the question and walked out with his belongings.

The middle-aged man shook his head helplessly and followed him.

When they arrived at the entrance of the military district compound, it was already completely dark. The soldier at the gate, clearly recognizing the driver, saluted and let them through.

They entered the house, where Old Master Mu was sitting in the living room. Seeing them, he pretended to pick up his tea cup and began drinking.

The middle-aged man walked up to him with a smile and saluted. "Uncle Mu, how are you?"

Old Master Mu also smiled and replied, "Xueze, I'm in good health. How's your father? Is his back still hurting?"

The middle-aged man poured a cup of tea and handed it to the old man. "My father is doing well. He was just thinking of you and said he would come over to play chess tomorrow."

Old Master Mu waved his hand. "Old Wei isn't up to playing chess. Let's not."

Wei Xueze smiled and didn't pick up on the comment. Instead, he placed the gift he had brought on the table. "Uncle Mu, this is a gift from Lian Shen. We're always so busy, so please take care of yourself and Auntie at home."

Old Master Mu glanced at the gift dismissively and replied with a noncommittal "Hmm."

He then turned around and saw that the ungrateful son had gone straight to his room. Not only had he not greeted him, but he hadn't even stayed to listen to him; he had gone straight to his room.

Feeling anger rise in his chest, Old Master Mu slammed the tea cup onto the table, his face flushing red with rage. He turned to Wei Xueze and demanded, "Are you sure this gift is from that ungrateful son? Does he even remember I'm his father?"

Wei Xueze put on a smiling face and tried to explain, "Lian Shen must have gone to his room for something."

Old Master Mu angrily pointed at the door. "Go, get that kid out here."

"Don't be angry. I'll get him for you right away," Wei Xueze said as he walked towards the adjacent room, opening the door to find Mu Lian Shen lying quietly on the bed, not moving even when he heard the door open.

"Hey... the old master is upset. You need to come out."

Mu Lian Shen simply turned over on the bed without getting up.

Wei Xueze, not feeling any sympathy, kicked him awake and dragged him into the living room.

In the living room, Mu Lian Shen's mother stood there, seeing her, Wei Xueze greeted her with a smile.
