When Fu Xiao returned home, it was still early. After sorting the wild vegetables, she headed to the kitchen to start cooking. She prepared two types of steamed dishes: carrot shreds and fiddlehead ferns, separating them into spicy and non-spicy versions—one with chili and the other with minced garlic.

She also stir-fried two kinds of greens and made a melon soup. Although there were no meat dishes, the family enjoyed the meal. The hot weather made the refreshing melon soup even more delightful, enhanced by her spiritual spring water, making it both tasty and healthy.

After dinner, the family gathered in the breezy living room for a chat before each retreating to their own rooms for a nap.

In the northwest military district, far from the bustling weekend activities, order had been restored.

In the military dormitory, Fu Weihao had just finished lunch. With many handovers to manage following his promotion, he didn't linger at home and headed out. Tan Lingling had officially joined the arts troupe, tidied up the kitchen, gave a few instructions to Fu Sui and his younger brother, and then left for work.

Fu Sui lay on the bed for a while, feeling reluctant to go to school. Glancing at his brother Fu Yu, who was sleeping soundly, he felt he should say something but remained silent.

He carefully turned onto his side, facing away from Fu Yu, and closed his eyes without actually falling asleep.

Half an hour later, it was time for school. Fu Yu nudged Fu Sui, "Bro, it's time to get up."

Fu Sui opened his eyes and quickly got out of bed, grabbing his school bag and heading to the military district's school with Fu Yu.

(For the little ones wondering why they are going to school while people in the village aren't, it's because their school schedules are different. According to one uncle, schools in military districts are different from regular ones, so the start and end times vary.)

Since they weren't in the same grade, Fu Sui and Fu Yu went their separate ways once they entered the school. As Fu Sui walked past the younger students' classrooms, he heard a familiar shout, "How come it's you guys again who are late? After school, you'll all be punished together. Don't like it? You're the children of soldiers and must follow orders. Misbehavior affects your parents..."

Fu Sui could no longer make out the words. The familiar harsh voice filled his ears, and he covered them with his hands. Despite his efforts, the devilish voice echoed in his mind. He crouched on the ground, breathing heavily, his expression grim.

Suddenly, he bit down on his wrist until it bled, the pain slowly bringing him back to himself, though he remained crouched.

After a while, he composed himself, his face returning to its usual calm expression.

He stood up and walked slowly to his class.

In the classroom, while the teacher lectured at the front, Fu Sui in the last row heard nothing. He quietly sat in his seat, looking down...

Was that devil still teaching?

Hadn't he been reassigned?

So, even after someone had died, no one paid attention?

He recalled Fu Xiao's words: "Just kill him..."

Yes, someone like him could be eliminated.

Thinking of the mirror she gave him, a strange smile curled his lips.
