There were quite a few people shopping here, many of whom were somewhat disguised, and no one spoke loudly. People either exchanged items or paid directly for what they wanted.

Fu Hong guided her through the market, which was filled with various rare items. She found several interesting trinkets that weren't too expensive and paid for them immediately.

They then entered a smaller courtyard at the back. The items here were noticeably more upscale, including some ginseng for sale. Although it wasn't of the best quality, it was thirty-year-old wild ginseng priced at three hundred yuan. Fu Xiao wasn't impressed; even her lowest-quality ginseng was better.

In this courtyard, many people were lining up in front of the main room, and Fu Xiao scanned the area with her spiritual sense.

Oh, it turns out they were exchanging gold bars...

Inside sat a stern-looking man who took gold bars from people in line. Others inspected the goods before money was exchanged.

It was surprising that gold bars were still being traded privately...

The market seemed well-managed, offering food that, although more expensive than at the grain station, didn't require tickets, attracting many people. The prices were reasonable, and the presence of patrols, who had just caught a thief, indicated conscientious management. It was clear that whoever organized this market had innovative ideas and good management, resembling modern practices.

She bought some delicate pastries from an old woman, who wore clean clothes and had white hair. Though her face was covered, her eyes were bright. The old woman whispered that the pastries were made from imperial recipes and were very tasty.

Fu Xiao tasted a piece of date cake, which was indeed delicious. Seeing her enjoyment, Fu Hong bought the remaining two portions from the old woman.

With a smile in her eyes, the old woman gave them the basket too.

After finishing a piece of cake, Fu Xiao said to Fu Hong, "Second Brother, let's head back."

Fu Hong, carrying a basket of pastries in his right hand and holding her hand with his left, agreed, "Alright, there's nothing else to see anyway."

They walked out of the courtyard, enjoying the moonlight and eating slowly as they went...

After they left, a figure emerged from the shadows.

He watched their retreating backs with a hint of amusement in his peach blossom eyes before turning and entering another house next to the courtyard.

The house was brightly lit, and several people stood in the yard, greeting him as he approached.

"Brother Zhou, you're here..."

A fifteen or sixteen-year-old boy ran up to him.

Shen Xingzhou smiled and patted the boy's head. "Where's Uncle Nine?"

The boy pointed to a room. "Uncle Nine is waiting for you inside."

"Got it. Go on with your tasks."

Shen Xingzhou entered the room.

The room was dimly lit by a single oil lamp. A middle-aged man in his forties sat there, holding a document and reading it with a detached, almost ethereal calm.

He looked up as Shen Xingzhou entered and set the document aside, his gaze inscrutable.

In a deep voice, he asked, "Why are you investigating someone named Mu?"
