Fu Xiao looked at the woman in front of her and said, "Auntie, don't worry. I'm not tired..."

With that, she smiled sincerely.

"Good girl. Auntie will introduce you to some of the aunts," Li Xiufen said, pulling her towards Wang Cuihua and the others.

"Come, everyone, look at our little darling."

Wang Cuihua and the others exchanged glances of disapproval but didn't respond to Li Xiufen's boastfulness.

Instead, they greeted Fu Xiao warmly. "I'm your Auntie Wang. You've grown so well. Since we're all family now, come find me if you need anything."

"Right... Look, Auntie Xiufen is so happy to finally have a daughter. She's smiling so much her eyes are almost closed."

Fu Xiao felt their kindness and nodded with a smile. "Hello, Aunties."

"Hello, hello..."

Everyone liked a pretty and well-behaved child, and Fu Xiao, being exceptionally cute, soon found herself with people pinching her cheeks.

Li Xiufen quickly intervened. "Enough, the child is tired. We need to head home."

She ignored the others and led Fu Xiao away.

"Such a well-behaved child, clearly a city kid. She looks great..."

"Indeed, she's like a doll from a painting..."

"Wasn't that Secretary Fu and the team leader's eldest son just now?"

"Yes, I saw them. They went all the way on the bullock cart without stopping."

"The team leader's family is all here now. The village will be lively these next few days."

Li Xiufen tightly held Fu Xiao's hand and led her home.

Entering the village, they could see the mountains behind it. The landscape was lush with greenery.

"Xiao Xiao, we're home. Look, that's our house," Li Xiufen said, pointing.

Fu Xiao looked in the direction Li Xiufen indicated and saw a house with blue brick and tile.

Most of the houses she had seen on the way were made of mud bricks, so this was the first blue brick house she had encountered.

At the gate, which was slightly open, Li Xiufen led her inside.

Inside, a boy with his back to the door was busy killing a chicken. He had placed the chicken on the ground and was using a cleaver to cut its head off. Blood splattered everywhere, making it quite a gruesome sight.

Though Fu Xiao was used to handling zombies in the apocalypse and found the scene less disturbing, she thought the way he was killing the chicken was rather messy.

Seeing this, Li Xiufen quickly covered Fu Xiao's eyes and shouted, "Fu Hong, can't you kill the chicken in the back yard? What if you scare the child?"

The boy turned around, and Fu Xiao saw his face. He resembled her uncle, with a chiseled face, sword-like eyebrows, and a strong nose. Most strikingly, his eyes were very similar to hers.

Seeing her, his eyes lit up with excitement, and he grinned widely.

The boy exclaimed, "Sister!"

In an instant, he was in front of her, his handsome face full of joy.

Li Xiufen, seeing him still holding the bloody knife, was furious. She grabbed a nearby broom and began hitting him. "You silly boy, I told you to go to the back yard. You're scaring your sister. Look at the mess you've made. What if you frighten her?"
