Fu Xiao was plotting how to get revenge.

Lu Jianguo noticed the serious expressions on their faces and thought that the two children must have been frightened by the situation. Their serious faces looked familiar, but he couldn't quite place them.

Even as they prepared to leave, he couldn't recall who the child resembled and eventually dismissed the thought, focusing on his official duties.

The police station was very close to the neighborhood committee. Fu Yu and Fu Xiao went to the committee to collect the pension money using their household registration book and Grandpa Fu's martyr certificate.

After leaving the neighborhood committee, it was almost mealtime, so they decided to eat at the state-run restaurant.

At the restaurant, the cashier seemed to recognize them and, with a smile, took their money and generously gave them an extra dish.

They each had a bowl of beef noodles, and before leaving, Fu Xiao reminded Fu Yu to take an extra serving of dumplings. She wanted to bring food to Uncle San, thinking he might be too busy to eat after the morning's events.

Her guess was correct. When they arrived at the county committee, Fu Weilun had just finished a meeting and hadn't eaten yet. He enjoyed the dumplings with some preserved meat from home and told Fu Yu, "A-Yu, take Xiao Xiao out this afternoon and show her around. You can stay in the county overnight and return tomorrow. I'll call home."

Fu Xiao was delighted and nodded vigorously. She had originally planned to come to the county late at night while everyone was asleep, so this worked out perfectly for her.

Seeing her happiness, Fu Yu agreed, thinking she was excited about staying in the county to have fun.

Fu Weilun smiled at Fu Xiao, saying, "Alright, go and have fun. I'll contact the family later."

He then reminded Fu Yu, "Take good care of your sister. I might not return to the dorm tonight, so both of you be careful."

After leaving the county committee, Fu Yu and Fu Xiao rode their bicycles to the department store, where they bought many things without receipts, since they had a large amount of money.

When they exited the store and passed by a small alley, Fu Xiao dragged Fu Yu inside. Although Fu Yu knew it was a black market, he didn't want to go in because they had bought many items and were pushing a bicycle. He was concerned about the inconvenience.

Fu Xiao whispered, "Big Brother, wait for me here. I'll be quick. You can keep an eye out for me."

Unable to resist her pleading, Fu Yu agreed. Despite knowing the place was generally safe, he took out a scarf to cover her face before letting her go in.

Fu Xiao wasn't interested in shopping but needed a good excuse to retrieve some items from her space. Once inside the alley, she saw a guarded gate. After being questioned about her purpose, she quietly said, "Buying things."

The gatekeeper said, "Five cents for buying things."

Fu Xiao handed over the coins, and the gatekeeper let her in. Inside, it was like a free market with various goods for trade, including grains, clothes, and bicycles. The items were similar to those in the department store but cost more here, with the advantage of not needing receipts.

Fu Xiao browsed through the stalls and eventually bought a jar of honey from an elderly vendor. She didn't open it, as she had honey in her space already and just needed a cover story. She would later switch it with her own honey.

After buying the honey, she prepared to leave. At the gate, she took out some pre-roasted tea leaves and two pounds of milk candy from her space. Acting as if she was carrying a lot of goods, she joined Fu Yu, who hung the items on the bicycle's handlebar and they left.
