Under the high-hanging crescent moon, the captured robbers were bound with their own ropes and tossed into a deep ditch nearby. The guards took turns keeping watch.

Fu Xiao was half-asleep in the backseat of the car, wrapped in a coat that Mu Lianshen had given her. Shen Xingzhou, sitting in the front passenger seat, had also closed his eyes.

Mu Lianshen, leaning against a tree and smoking, had a somber expression. The smoke curled around him, obscuring his handsome features and adding to the night's eerie atmosphere.

He called out to Fu Yu, who was perched on a nearby tree, "You should go inside the car and get some rest."

Fu Yu glanced over at him and replied lazily, "I'm not tired."

Mu Lianshen walked over and stood next to the tree where Fu Yu was sitting, lifting his eyes to meet Fu Yu's. "What grade is An An in now?"

"She starts the second year of junior high in September," Fu Yu replied softly. "She's very smart; she can learn things on her own just by reading."

Mu Lianshen's lips curved into a faint smile.

Fu Yu, noticing Mu Lianshen's expression, continued, "We all call her 'Xiao Xiao' because she was so small when she was born that we nearly lost her. I've heard from Grandpa that Uncle and the others put a lot of effort into getting her health back on track."

"Your visit to my home," Fu Yu said, his voice calm, "won't be met with a warm reception from Grandpa."

Mu Lianshen's heart sank slightly, and he clenched his fists. "It's okay. It's my responsibility."

Fu Yu's comment was straightforward and devoid of hidden meaning. He looked at Mu Lianshen, who was lost in thought, and then closed his eyes again.

Mu Lianshen exhaled a cloud of smoke and gazed into the distance, his thoughts heavy. "If I had been by your side back then, how much better it would have been..."

Meanwhile, the guards had found a phone. In the middle of the night, Wu Chengfeng, the leader of the Kyoto military district's special forces, was preparing for bed when the phone rang.

After listening to the guard's report, Wu Chengfeng responded seriously, "Alright, I'll arrange for people to go immediately."

After hanging up, he quickly contacted nearby personnel, deciding to send an extra team given the potential risks of dealing with local forces. Once everything was arranged, his sleepiness disappeared, and he couldn't help but smile.

He called Zhai Jiu to share the news.

When Zhai Jiu answered the phone, he heard Wu Chengfeng laughing on the other end. "What's the reason for your late-night call?" Zhai Jiu asked coldly.

Wu Chengfeng, still amused, replied, "Mu Lianshen is asking for help. He's in trouble and needs nearby support. Can you believe it? The fearless Mu Lianshen is actually in a situation where he needs to call for help."

Zhai Jiu's face darkened slightly, and he said, "That's fine for jokes, but don't slack off. There's a girl with him—don't let anything happen to her. Handle it properly."

Wu Chengfeng, sensing the seriousness in Zhai Jiu's tone, said, "I take this seriously. I've already sent people out. We have a team close by who will arrive within two hours, and others will come by dawn."

Zhai Jiu asked, "Do you know what's going on?"

Wu Chengfeng's tone became more serious. "It seems like the bandits who were on the run earlier. They haven't been cleaned up yet. This time, they've crossed paths with Mu Lianshen. It's probably going to be a bigger mess than expected."

"Understood. Make sure you investigate thoroughly. Don't share any unnecessary details with me; it's better if I don't know," Zhai Jiu replied.

Wu Chengfeng was about to make a further comment when Zhai Jiu hung up. Wu Chengfeng shook his head with a smile, muttering to himself about how Zhai Jiu's brothers were also in the system but didn't bother with him.

He sighed and left his desk to return to bed.

The special forces quickly mobilized and arrived in the early hours of the morning. Fu Xiao, sensing the arrival of military vehicles, opened her eyes and used her sharp perception to check outside.

Relieved to see the approaching military vehicles, she rubbed her sleepy head. She exchanged a glance with the awakened Shen Xingzhou and got out of the car.

As the two military trucks arrived, a figure descended from the first truck and saluted Mu Lianshen. It was Lu Yuan, the team leader of the special forces. He was lean and sharp-looking, exuding an aura of danger like a sword unsheathed.

Mu Lianshen raised an eyebrow upon seeing him. "It's you?"

Lu Yuan smiled and said, "Uncle Mu, I happen to be on a mission nearby."

"Who are these people who've caused you trouble?" Lu Yuan asked, glancing around.

"They're just a bunch of robbers," Mu Lianshen replied. "One of them seems a bit unusual, not a typical villager. Check it out."

Lu Yuan frowned slightly. "Understood. Is there any official business?"

Mu Lianshen's gaze lifted slightly as he responded calmly, "Just a personal matter."

"In that case, you should find somewhere to rest in the county seat and have breakfast before continuing," Lu Yuan suggested with a smile.

Mu Lianshen looked at Fu Xiao, who was still dazed from sleep, and after a moment of thought, nodded. He then reminded Lu Yuan, "Make sure the tree blocking the main road is cleared so that traffic isn't affected."

Lu Yuan's eyebrows arched up. "Got it. We have the equipment to handle that. I'll arrange it."

He gestured to his team, who proceeded to extract the robbers from the ditch. The wounded and unconscious robbers were handled with no sympathy and loaded onto the truck.

Lu Yuan instructed one of his men, "Wang San, come here."

Wang San approached with a smile, asking, "What's up, Captain?"

"Get a few people to clear the trees blocking the main road," Lu Yuan directed. "Get them to do it from where they were captured. They made the mess, they clean it up. Have it done before dawn."

Wang San nodded with an even broader grin. "Understood. I'll take a truck and bring some people to clear it."

The robbers, now bound and loaded into the truck, were thrown in without regard, and Lu Yuan, smiling, approached Mu Lianshen. "Uncle Mu, just follow us in your car. I'll lead the way."

Mu Lianshen nodded casually and climbed into the driver's seat. Lu Yuan hopped into the front passenger seat and instructed, "Let's go."

As the two vehicles—one large and one small—made their way to the county town, the road returned to its usual tranquility.
