"We'll handle our matters ourselves. You don't need to be caught in the middle," Mu Lianshen said softly, his tone calm. "After all, he once saved your life."
"And..."
"He hasn't done anything to harm us; he's only revealed the truth."
He gave Chen Ye a light, knowing smile. "In a way, I should thank him."
Chen Ye could clearly sense the coldness emanating from Mu Lianshen and felt uneasy. He didn't want any friction between them over this issue.
With an anxious expression, he stepped in front of Mu Lianshen as he was about to get out of the car and said quickly, "Lianshen, I only recently received this news. I was planning to tell you as soon as you returned. I didn't mean to keep it from you."
Mu Lianshen patted his shoulder. "I know. There's no need for us to say so much."
"I need to head back. Grandpa must be waiting for me."
As Chen Ye watched his retreating figure, he reflected, "This person has truly changed a lot."
But perhaps it's for the better.
After such a blow, it's better to see someone change because of concern for certain people than to be paralyzed by the impact.
He was truly glad that Mu Lianshen still had a daughter.
Mu Lianshen walked through the gate of the Mu family home.
Uncle Liu, who was tidying up in the courtyard, saw him and excitedly came over to take his bag, smiling, "You're back?"
"Yes," Mu Lianshen nodded. "Uncle Liu, where is Grandpa?"
"Grandpa is in the study. You go up first, and I'll prepare a bowl of noodles for you."
"Thank you, Uncle Liu."
Mu Lianshen walked towards the study.
Without knocking, he pushed the door open and entered.
Seeing him, Grandpa Mu smiled and took off his reading glasses. "You're back? Why didn't you stay with the child a few more days?"
"The child worried you'd be lonely, so I came back early to keep you company."
Grandpa Mu's eyes brightened noticeably, his excitement evident as his smile widened. "Good, what a good child."
"Is it cold in the countryside? Did the child have enough clothes? I bought two more nice sets of cotton clothes while shopping the other day. Send them to the child."
"By the way, did you buy the things I asked for?"
"Cigarettes, alcohol, and some rice and flour – I've prepared everything."
Grandpa Mu seemed to remember something and stood up, slapping the table. "Is it snowing over there too? Should we find a way to send some coal?"
Mu Lianshen chuckled, "Dad, there's no need. The Fu family doesn't burn coal; they use firewood."
"I've arranged plenty of firewood. Don't worry about the things you mentioned; I've bought them all."
Grandpa Mu nodded repeatedly. "That's good."
"Dad, this is a gift from Grandpa Fu for you."
Seeing the things Mu Lianshen put down, Grandpa Mu was even more pleased. "What a waste of money. Why bring back gifts? You really don't understand; it's enough to just be polite."
Though he said this, Grandpa Mu's hands were still eagerly holding the small package.
At this moment, the study door was knocked on, and Uncle Liu entered with a smile. "Lianshen, come down and have a bowl of noodles."
