In the coming days, to prepare for the test on Monday, Fu Xiao set aside one or two hours each day to study her textbooks. While she had already mastered the first-year material, she was now focusing on the second-year textbooks. Although she was confident she would pass the test, she aimed to achieve a high score to see if she could advance to the same grade as her older brother.

Northwest Military District Headquarters

Wei Xueze walked into the office, ignoring Mu Lianshen at the desk, and headed straight to the sofa. He poured himself a cup of tea and drank it in one go. After a short rest, he approached the desk and asked quietly, "What are you looking at?"

Mu Lianshen didn't lift his head and responded coldly, "The promotion list. Isn't this the one you sent over?"

"Oh..." Wei Xueze smiled, "You're only now looking at the document I sent yesterday?"

Mu Lianshen looked up and asked in an indifferent tone, "What brings you here now?"

Wei Xueze chuckled and leaned on the desk, saying, "Guess what? Someone is investigating you..."

Mu Lianshen nodded nonchalantly and replied, "So what? It's not the first time I've been investigated."

"This person is quite discreet and not from a rival faction," Wei Xueze continued. "At first, I thought it was an enemy, but it turns out it's not."

Wei Xueze took out some papers and a photo from his pocket and placed them on the desk. "Here's the information and the photo. Take a look."

Mu Lianshen glanced briefly at the documents before setting them aside. He examined the photo more closely, narrowing his eyes. "I've seen this person before, on the street in Beijing. What has he discovered?"

Wei Xueze replied slowly, "What we've hidden is likely beyond his reach, but he must have uncovered some details about your family. Should we detain him and question him?"

Mu Lianshen gave him a sidelong glance. "Has this person committed any offenses?"

"Not exactly," Wei Xueze smiled broadly. "He's done quite a lot, but it's not our concern. I'm just curious about his interest in you."

Mu Lianshen scoffed, "If you're so idle, don't bother sending me these files in the future. Handle it yourself."

Wei Xueze merely smiled and said nothing. He picked up the documents, flipped through a couple of pages, then closed them with a smile. "Anyway, don't forget the rehearsal this weekend. You have to attend."

Mu Lianshen replied solemnly, "I'm not going."

"You must," Wei Xueze insisted gently. "I know you dislike crowds, but the top leaders have requested you to present the awards. Just make a brief appearance at the beginning of the ceremony."

"Fine, I'll consider it," Mu Lianshen said, his gaze cold.

Wei Xueze took his leave, saying, "I'll let you know when the time comes. I'm off to work now." He left the office under Mu Lianshen's stern look.

At Fu Weihao's Home

Fu Weihao, Fu Sui, and Fu Yu sat in the living room, watching Tan Lingling change outfits for what seemed like the umpteenth time.

Fu Sui sighed, "Dad, is this the third outfit? How many more is she going to try?"

Fu Weihao picked up a newspaper and replied calmly, "She's performing on stage this time. Of course, she's excited."
