The man inside was silent for a moment before breaking into a laugh. The sound was unsettling and eerie.
"Comrade, I remember you placed an order with us two days ago. It was a young girl then. Why is it suddenly a whole family now?"
The voice on the other side was deep and ghostly.
Mu Wanlan forced herself to stay calm, despite her fear. "Isn't this what you do? Having more people shouldn't be a problem for you, right?"
The man's chilling voice echoed, "It's not a problem, just a few country folks. But handling an entire family is different. Besides, you didn't provide detailed information."
"What if there's a tough nut to crack..."
"So... the amount you offered isn't enough. You'll need to pay more!!!"
Mu Wanlan hesitated but agreed, "Alright. How much more?"
The man nonchalantly replied, "Normally, we charge per head. Since you haven't specified how many are in the family, start with five thousand. Oh, and add ten gold bars. If it's not enough, we'll discuss it then."
Although the amount exceeded her expectations, Mu Wanlan didn't dare haggle. She was more afraid of the man in front of her. Compared to her usual manipulative games, this man was truly dangerous.
Since she needed their help to solve her problem, she didn't dare say much and simply agreed.
"Alright, I'll deliver the money later. When can you take care of it?"
"We'll arrange for people to leave immediately. But remember, the agreed payment must be honored. Otherwise, I won't let you off."
The man's voice was cold, sending shivers down her spine.
Mu Wanlan nodded, her voice trembling slightly, "I'll go get the money now and deliver it to you tonight."
As she left the courtyard, Mu Wanlan was covered in a cold sweat. She leaned against the wall for a moment to calm herself before slowly exiting the alley.
One of the subordinates, seeing the man lounging on a soft couch, asked respectfully, "Brother Chen, should I handle this task?"
The man's narrow eyes snapped open, his gaze sharp and full of murderous intent.
He spoke in a cold, cutting tone, "I'll handle it personally. Your skills aren't up to par, and the last task you did left traces. You're still being hunted."
The voice was extremely harsh.
The subordinate awkwardly smiled, "Brother Chen, shouldn't we find a few more people? There are just three of us, and with so many tasks, we can't keep up..."
The man's eyes narrowed, an icy aura emanating from him. His lips curled as he spoke, his words frosty.
"Are you an idiot? This isn't some casual business. You think you can just recruit people like in a department store? Idiot..."
The subordinate bowed his head in embarrassment, feeling pitiful.
The man, disgusted by such subordinates, averted his gaze and coldly said, "I'll leave shortly. When that woman brings the money, make sure you count it carefully. If it's short, I'll kill you."
With that, he didn't even glance at him again and turned to his room to pack.
He changed into a new outfit and put on glasses.
