As the sky darkened, Mu Lianshen seemed to regain his composure. He turned around, glanced at the sky, and suddenly said, "Return to Beijing."

Fu Xiao stood at the door, watching Mu Lianshen approach.

The despair on his face had faded, but the redness in his eyes remained. His gaze was deep and devoid of emotion, making it hard to discern his thoughts.

When he saw her, a hint of gentleness appeared in his eyes.

Seeing him like this, she suddenly felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.

She stepped forward and said softly, "I want to go to Beijing with you."

Mu Lianshen looked down at her face, which was so similar to his own, and his expression softened. He slightly parted his lips and said, "Alright..."

Although he had planned to leave immediately, Mu Lianshen was reluctant to have her accompany him on a night journey. Therefore, he decided to depart the next morning.

He arranged to pick her up in the morning and, understanding that the Fu family didn't hold him in high regard, he left with Wei Xuezhe without lingering.

After they left, the small courtyard in the suburbs finally fell quiet.

Fu Weihao continued to persuade her, but seeing that she was determined to go, he didn't stop her. He repeatedly stressed to Fu Yu that he needed to take good care of her.

Fu Sui's request to go along was rejected, leaving him sullenly sitting aside.

Fu Yu, with a smile on his face, pulled him aside and sat next to Fu Xiao. Observing Fu Weihao's worried expression, he spoke slowly, "Dad, you don't need to worry about Xiao Xiao's safety. Since she's going with him, I believe he'll protect her."

He shifted his gaze to Fu Xiao. "The reasons behind all this should be investigated by him..."

"And once the matter is resolved, how she views him will depend on Xiao Xiao. The initiative is in her hands now."

At this point, Fu Yu suddenly smiled.

Mu Lianshen, who was now full of guilt towards Fu Xiao, would certainly not allow anyone to harm her.

After leaving the neighborhood, Mu Lianshen and Wei Xuezhe drove straight back to the headquarters.

Upon returning, Mu Lianshen sat silently at his desk. Seeing him so quiet, Wei Xuezhe softly said, "Lianshen, you haven't eaten all day. I'll have someone prepare some food for you."

When he saw Mu Lianshen's lack of response, he didn't push further and went to arrange the meal himself.

Elsewhere, at the guesthouse.

Li Zhengye was still shaken, recounting the day's events to Shen Xingzhou.

"Zhouzhou, you don't know how terrifying the commander's expression was at that time... What do you think he's investigating?"

Shen Xingzhou refilled his cup with water, smiling as he replied, "Uncle Li, you don't need to be scared. You've always followed the rules and haven't done anything wrong. The things I asked you for aren't classified."

Li Zhengye took a sip of water and said, "You're right. I'll just focus on doing my own job and not worry about the rest."

He looked up at Shen Xingzhou. "When are you heading back? If you see the Ninth Master, remember to give him my regards."
