Gu Qichen, who had been awake for some time, kicked the scar-faced man still sound asleep beside him.
After sleeping for the night, the wound that had been treated was no longer a big deal. Now, Gu Qichen felt quite energetic. He straightened his clothes a bit and calmly walked out of the small storage room.
He followed behind Fu Yu and walked straight into the living room. Ignoring the hostile stares from everyone at the dining table, he directly found an empty chair and sat down.
Compared to his thick-skinned demeanor, the scar-faced man seemed more normal; he just stood blankly at the doorway and didn't even step inside.
Gu Qichen was wearing glasses at the moment, presenting a scholarly and refined appearance. With a polite smile on his face, he softly spoke to the elder sitting at the head of the table, "Sir, good morning. I apologize for yesterday; I was truly forced by circumstances and had no other choice. I hope you can forgive me."
His overly polite words caused Fu Xiao, who was eating, to feel a wave of discomfort. She couldn't eat any more, so she placed her egg into Fu Hong's bowl and walked out.
Grandpa Fu put down his chopsticks, his sharp gaze fixed on Gu Qichen. After a long while, he spoke softly, "Eldest daughter-in-law, go prepare two more bowls of porridge."
Li Xiufen sighed softly and went into the kitchen, bringing out two bowls of plain porridge and a few steamed buns, which she placed on the table.
Gu Qichen didn't hesitate; he picked up a bowl and began to eat immediately.
Fu Hong's hostile gaze kept shooting toward him, but Gu Qichen ignored it and just quietly ate his meal.
The scar-faced man standing by the door noticed Fu Xiao and smiled awkwardly, a grumbling sound coming from his stomach.
Fu Xiao heard the noise, her mouth twitching slightly. She returned to the living room, grabbed the bowl of plain porridge, and handed it to him along with two steamed buns.
The scar-faced man thanked her, took the food, and squatted on the ground to eat.
Fu Xiao's expression became even more peculiar. This guy is supposed to be an assassin?...
He looks more like a fool.
(⊙ _ ⊙ )?
Fu Weilun got up from the dining table, walked over to her, and spoke softly, "In a while, go with your third uncle to the county."
Fu Xiao nodded.
Fu Weilun then turned back inside to speak with Grandpa Fu.
Grandpa Fu looked at Fu Xiao, sighed, and said softly, "Go ahead, and let A'Yu go with you."
Fu Hong was about to say he wanted to go too but was stopped by Grandpa Fu, "You stay at home."
Fu Hong lowered his head in disappointment, clearly unhappy.
Grandpa Fu didn't bother with him and turned to Fu Weibai, "You take the ox cart and give them a ride."
Then he spoke to Fu Weilun, "Old Third, come with me to the house..."
Fu Weilun helped Grandpa Fu back into the room. Grandpa Fu took a stack of letters from a cabinet, pulled out two, and handed them to him. "These are from some of my old comrades who are likely still in office. I'm not sure of their specific ranks, but take these two letters. If things get difficult, find someone to help. We need to get justice for Xiao Xiao; don't be afraid to make trouble, understand?"
