Chapter 71: Ninja vs Lava

"That Clutch Powers guy might have run off to save himself, stranding us here, but I have to admit, his book is pretty good" Jay said as he read the book as they all hung there. The pyramid rumbled as lava continued to seep out of it like a volcano.

"It has a section for everything. Even, 'What to Do When All is Lost'. He recommends vocal exercises, like, brobrogoo-goo, brobrogoo-goo" Jay sang as the pyramid crumbled. "How is saying a bunch of nonsense possibly gonna help us?" Lloyd asked as he looked over at Jay, "it says it keeps you calm by relaxing your face" Jay explained before singing it again in a goofy voice.

"Perhaps Clutch didn't abandon us. Perhaps he went to seek help" Zane said as he looked at Nya, "sure. And maybe the evil snake queen we just accidentally released from an ancient tomb is heading to Ninjago City for some sightseeing" Nya said sarcastically. "I find that highly unlikely," Zane said as he shook his head. "We need to update your sarcasm circuits, Zane," Y/N said as she placed her free hand on her shoulder while looking around. "If we get out of here" Nya finished as she and Zane looked down.

"We wouldn't even be hanging here if Jay hadn't opened that crypt" Cole shouted as he looked past Y/N and Lloyd, and towards Jay. "Me? Zane's the one who didn't warn us in time" Jay argued before sighing and continued to sing. "How can you blame Zane? Who opens a possibly cursed tomb without checking it out first?" Y/N argued as she looked over at Jay with a scowl on her face, "opening a tomb is how you check it out. And what about Kai, hmm? He's the one who let her steal his powers" Jay shouted as he pulled on the chain, making Kai hit the wall.

"Hey!" Nya shouted as she looked over at Jay with a scowl, "watch it" Y/N spat as she looked at Jay. Jay smiled nervously at the two girls as Lloyd then looked at Zane. "She's right. How's he doing, Zane?" Lloyd asked as Y/N turned to look at the Nindroid.

"His vitals are stable. He should recover shortly" Zane said softly. "Good. Now we just have to figure a way out of here. Any ideas?" Lloyd asked, Jay gasped as he looked down at his book. "Maybe there's something in Clutch's book. He's got a chapter entitled, 'Escaping from Close Calls'." Jay said as he placed the book on his feet and flipped through the pages. "Really? What does it say?" Cole asked as he looked over at Jay, "let me check" Jay said, but as he was about to read, the torches sizzled out, making them sit in the dark. "Aw, great. Now I can't even see" Jay whined.

Y/N's eyes widened as she heard lava burble. "Oh, that's better, thanks Y/N" Jay said with a smile, "uh, Jay. Not better" Y/N said as she looked over at the lava starting to seep into the room. "Incoming lava. Don't panic! Clutch has a whole chapter on rising lava. I just have to turn to that page. Ahh" Jay shouted as he dropped his book into the lava. "No! Oh, that book was our only hope!" Jay whined.

"Everyone, we need to get out of this room. Follow my lead!" Lloyd ordered as he flipped around so his back was towards the ground and his feet were on the wall. Y/N grunted as she did the same, feeling the pull on her shoulder. They all started to pull before Jay, Lloyd, Cole and Y/N's side broke off the wall. Soon pulling the others off. "Whoa!" Jay screamed as he dangled by the lava while Nya held onto a chain hanging from the roof.

"Oh, thank you, Nya. I love you" Jay said as he smiled up at her. "Just...hold...on!" Nya grunted as she swung them over, away from the lava. They all yelled, followed by grunts as they landed on the stone. "Nice work, Nya. Now let's get out of here and save Ninjago City from Aspheera. What do you say, Ninja?" Lloyd asked as they all cheered. And just as they went to run, Y/N ducked down as the chain pulled them back towards each other, hitting them over her as they all groaned. "Ow" Jat whined.

"That's how we came in. How about we all go that way, together" Lloyd suggested as he put his hand out for Y/N to take. Y/N smiled softly as she grabbed his hand, grunting slightly as she felt pain in her shoulder. Lloyd looked at her worriedly but she shook her head as she helped Cole with Kai as they ran towards where they came from.

"All right, Y/N, do your thing" Lloyd said, Y/N nodded as she walked up to the stone door and grunted as she started to pull up the stone. Y/N held the stone over her head as she nodded at the Ninja. Cole pulled Kai through before the stone dropped on him, his mask being pulled off. Y/N picked up his upper body as she examined him, nodding at Nya to show he was fine.

"Y/N, you could've smashed Kai" Jay shouted as he looked down at Y/N, "me? You yanked me out!" Y/N shouted back as she pushed his arm. "Guys! We need to stop fighting and work together. Look. It's time we faced it. Master Wu was right. We've gone soft. Not just individually, but as a team. We have to put aside our differences and..." Lloyd said, "uh, Lloyd?" Cole said as he and Jay looked at the stone behind him. "No, let me finish. And work together or Ninjago will fall before–" Lloyd continued, "lava!" Zane shouted. "No, not lava. I was talking about Aspheera" Lloyd argued as he looked at the Ninja, "no! Lava! Right there. Right now!" Y/N shouted as she pulled Kai onto her back, his arms rested on her shoulders as well as his head while his feet dragged.
