PART 1: CONTACT (1) | Chapter 1

This is my first post. I was inspired by a certain manga and thought it was interesting, so I decided to create this. Please note I'm a complete amateur when it comes to anything military-related, so I would appreciate it if you could look at it kindly. There will also be weapons with sci-fi elements appearing.

Chapter 1: Anomaly in Japan

Somewhere in Tokyo, the capital of Japan

"Hey, do you think this country is heading toward a hopeful future, or is it doomed for destruction? What do you think?"

"We won't know until we move forward. But if we make a mistake, this country will perish. That much is certain."

A few months earlier

April 2045

On that day, Japan was suddenly struck by an earthquake. The magnitude was relatively small, around 2 to 3, nothing significant for Japan as a country prone to earthquakes. However, today was different.

Immediately after the earthquake, a massive bomb cyclone large enough to cover the entire nation appeared out of nowhere, unleashing violent storms across the country. Yet, it quickly subsided.

The staff at the Japan Meteorological Agency had no idea what was going on.

"What the heck is happening...?"

"There's no abnormality with the observation equipment or monitors, and this can't just be written off as unusual weather, can it?"

Although the Meteorological Agency was bristling with confusion, things gradually settled down as no further anomalies were observed.

"Well, we had a lot going on, but for now, it seems to have calmed down. Anyway, I'll go report this to the higher-ups. Matsuda, any abnormalities with the observation satellites?"

"...There... was..."

"What? What did you say?"

"Communications with the observation satellites... suddenly went dead."

"Huh?"

At that moment, Japan was on the brink of something catastrophic.

Guam

Dennis Schmidt, the commander of the US military base in Guam, which operates in the Pacific, was at his desk doing paperwork as usual. When he glanced at the clock, it was already past 23:00.

"Hm? It's already this late? I guess I'll finish up by organizing these documents."

Just as Dennis was about to tidy up, a communications officer burst in without knocking, panting heavily.

"C-Commander! This is an emergency! All communications with American military bases in Japan have suddenly been cut off!"

Though shocked by the sudden and startling report, Dennis responded calmly.

"W-wait, hold on. Calm down. There's no way communication with all of our military bases in Japan could be cut off at once. Are you sure it isn't just a malfunction in the communication systems?"

"It's not a malfunction, sir! We've also received reports from bases in Hawaii, South Korea, and the Philippines that all communications with American bases in Japan have suddenly ceased!"

Dennis suspected a cyber-terror attack by China. But despite Japan being somewhat behind in cyber defenses compared to other advanced nations, he knew their systems weren't weak enough to cause such a widespread communication disruption. So what could it be?

"Anyway, continue trying to establish contact with our bases in Japan and the Embassy in Tokyo! Also, contact the bases in South Korea and have them investigate what's happening in Japan!"

Feeling overwhelmed with unease, Dennis contacted the US Department of Defense.

"What in the world is happening...?"
