Western Bernabeu Land and Wyvern Base

The Western Bernabeu Land and Wyvern Base of the Thestania Empire stretches wide, with numerous wooden barracks, wyvern stables, a stone-built command tower, and a training ground. Normally, you'd hear the voices of soldiers training day and night, but now it is quiet since most of the soldiers have been deployed as part of the invasion force into the Halidom of Alfheim and the Dom Continent.

Three thousand troops remained as reserves. Among them, three young soldiers, believing they wouldn't be called upon, had moved a bit away from the base to chat in the bushes, hoping their superiors wouldn't find them.

"Ah, I bet the seniors are having a good time in enemy territory right about now."

"Idiot! It's a war zone! What are you talking about?"

"Yeah, but they're just barbarians, right? We can kill them all we want—and take the women too."

"Jeez... that's why the officers are always yelling at you..."

"Haha! Can't argue with that!"

"Hey, what's with that look? You know I'm right!"

As they laughed over their trivial chatter, the sudden sound of the wyverns' threatening cries echoed from the stables.

ROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAARRR

"Huh? What's that? They just fed them, right?"

"Are they hungry again?"

The two assumed the wyverns were simply hungry and sighed, but the third soldier turned pale and muttered. He was a member of the Wyvern Knights, so he understood in an instant.

"No... This is the cry they make when an enemy is near!"

"!?"

The three hurried back to the base, and on the way, they heard a loud, rumbling noise passing overhead.

GOOOOOAAAAARRRRR!

'What was that!? It's not a wyvern's call!'

Perplexed, the three tried to hasten back to the base, but then—

GWAAAARRR! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM... BOOOOOM...!

An immense tremor, along with a shockwave, suddenly flung them back several meters.

A few minutes later, they awoke, slightly injured but mostly unharmed. They confirmed each other's safety and surveyed the area. Shocked, they saw the trees around them had been leveled, opening the landscape. In the distance, a massive plume of black smoke and flames rose.

"Hey... over there..."

"It's the direction of the base!"

When the three finally reached the base, what they saw was an unrecognizable scene of devastation. Buildings lay in ruins, engulfed in flames, and the smell of burned human flesh and wyvern filled the air. It was a scene that could only be described as hell. They called out for their comrades, juniors, and superiors, but no one responded. Or perhaps it would've been strange if anyone did—survivors seemed impossible.

"This... this is horrible..."

"...Who could have done this? Even wyverns' flames wouldn't cause this much destruction!"
