Above the Forbidden Land, outside the Kingdom of Reumel

A creature soared freely in the cloudless sky. It was a wyvern, a type of dragon that stood at the top of the food chain. On the back of this wyvern rode a man. His name was Lurtz, the 25-year-old commander and chief of the 1st Wyvern Knights of the Kingdom of Reumel.

"How many times has it been flying above this so-called Forbidden Land?"

"Commander, Commander Lurtz! Can you slow down a bit? The rookie, Roy, is scared and falling behind! Hahaha!"

The voice calling from Lurtz's right rear belonged to Doyle, the vice commander of the 1st Wyvern Knights. At 45, he had a robust physique, a thick beard, and several scars on his face. He was truly a figure deserving of the term "brave warrior."

And lagging about 500 meters behind Lurtz and Doyle was the young rider, Roy. At 18 years old, he had graduated with excellent marks as a trainee and had joined the 1st Wyvern Knights, but today, for some reason, he was showing signs of anxiety and fear.

"I-I'm sorry, Commander Lurtz, Vice Commander Doyle!"

"Don't sweat it, Roy. When you were a trainee, you only rode a wyvern that was just under 5 meters long. The speed you feel on an 8-meter wyvern is on a completely different level. Plus, you've got to be feeling nervous about various things."

"The Commander is too soft! When I was a rookie, I flew without being scared from the very start!"

"You're different from Roy, aren't you?"

Lurtz responded with a wry smile to Doyle's words, and then Roy said, "That's true, but still, the fact that we're over the Forbidden Land is, um..."

Roy answered as if he was afraid of something, to which Lurtz replied, "Well, yeah," and Doyle laughed heartily in response.

The name of the continent where the Kingdom of Reumel exists is Dom. It is about the size of Australia, with the Kingdom of Reumel covering an area roughly the same as Hokkaidō. To the east of the Kingdom of Reumel lies a peninsula about the size of Alaska, which is called the "Forbidden Land."

Two hundred years ago, the Kingdom of Reumel dispatched a development survey team to the unexplored eastern region, where they found vast lands and forests, and immediately began their development. Suddenly, the sky turned pitch dark. The surveyors, confused by what was happening, looked up to see a gigantic object falling from the sky, engulfed in flames and light. As a result, more than half of the 2.000 members of the development survey team died. The survivors began to refer to the object that fell from the sky as the "Divine Tear."

A renowned priest stated, "That land is where the gods reside. The furious god angered by our pollution of the land dropped the Tear and punished us."

Believing this tale, the citizens and the previous king named that land the "Forbidden Land" and banned all entry.

However, as time passed, the number of those within the kingdom who believed another development survey team should be dispatched to the Forbidden Land continued to grow. In response, the clergy firmly opposed it, declaring, "This act will incur the wrath of the gods!" Yet, a certain scholar remarked, "The events that occurred 200 years ago were not divine punishment, but merely one of nature's disasters. If it truly were divine punishment, why would the gods go out of their way to destroy their own land? It would be much more efficient for them to strike this castle directly rather than target the development survey team. Additionally, we have been conducting secret investigations of the Forbidden Land from above using the Wyvern Knights for several years now, and not a single divine punishment has occurred. Therefore, we need to dispatch another development survey team to that land!"
