Baroc Forest, Great Valkian Empire western border inner edge
At almost the same time as the Sahenantis Empire was under attack by the Covenant forces, Valkia was reinforcing its border defenses in preparation for the imminent war with the Second World.
In the Baroc Forest stood the military city of Baroc, home to three fleets stationed there permanently. As a result, the residents of the city, while anxious about the war with the Second World, seemed to maintain a certain level of composure. The Baroc region was partially responsible for the defense of the western border, both on land and in the air. Although most of the defensive activities were concentrated in the outer perimeter, a few patrols were also stationed within the inner perimeter.
A destroyer unit from the 6th Fleet of the Baroc Base patrolled the skies above the forest. The second ship of the destroyer class, the Fogel, cruised leisurely through the air.
"No abnormalities... I suppose," muttered the captain, Megatz, as he scanned the scenery through binoculars from the bridge. All he could see was a blue sky, a lush green forest, and a few birds, giant beasts, and winged dragons.
"Well, over 90% of the forces are deployed to the outer perimeter."
"Exactly as you say, Dutch. Still, I find it more comfortable to manage just our ship rather than leading a larger squadron."
"...That's hardly the attitude one would expect from someone tasked with national defense."
"Let it slide," Megatz replied with a wry smile, exchanging a glance with his second-in-command, Dutch.
Despite a significant presence patrolling the outer perimeter, Megatz found little sense in the need to meticulously patrol the inner perimeter. However, recognizing the importance of the mission, he focused on piloting his beloved ship.
Considering it to be an uneventful mission, Megatz decided to change the topic.
"By the way, what do you think of that alliance?"
"The Great Powers' alliance?"
"Yes, that one. It's a bold move."
"The enemy is unknown. But Lemuria is different in that they are exceedingly dangerous. Though they seem to have arrived here with a time displacement... a 470-year gap is significant."
"Indeed. They've even managed to establish a massive religious hegemony. With limited resources, things might get a bit tight."
"The advantage of this bio-engine system is its ability to navigate the Mithril Zone. The downsides are the rapid deterioration unique to each unit and the difficulty of mass production. Without this bio-engine, ships wouldn't fly. It's like trying to grow crops without seeds, even if you have water and soil."
"Still, we've managed to reach the target number, and that's commendable, isn't it?"
"Even so, it's only 1.500 ships. To fight the Second World, we'd need at least another zero."
"Speaking of which... I hear that the Japanese government is proposing the transfer of certain technologies, and our government is positively considering it. What do you think?"
"Hmph. I'm not fond of the way they act like sharing their technology won't cause any problems. While it's likely meant as a countermeasure against the Second World, it probably also serves an economic purpose."
