Principality of Zohan, a neighboring nation of the Thestania Empire

Carim was born to a human woman and a male rabbit beastman.

At the time, the Thestania Empire and the Principality of Zohan were in the midst of war, but faced with the overwhelming military power of Thestania, Zohan fell in less than a month.

Although the Principality of Zohan was not a wealthy country, it was a wonderful nation where humans and demi-humans lived hand in hand. Unfortunately, having the Thestania Empire as a neighbor was a stroke of misfortune. A unilateral declaration of war was issued, and one by one, Zohan's villages, towns, and cities were razed, with its people massacred.

Carim and his parents were captured by the Thestanian army in the capital.

・・・

Boorun, capital of the Principality of Zohan

The air was thick with the stench of burning rubble, living beings, and a cacophony of screams and shouts of anger. The surviving citizens of Zohan gathered in a certain square were all suffering from some injury. They were encircled by over a dozen Thestanian soldiers.

"Alright!! Listen up, you wretches who should've been dead! From today on, you're all slaves! Women, get in that carriage! The rest of you stay here!"

Using a voice-amplifying magical device, a commander of the Thestanian army barked orders at the citizens. The women were packed tightly into a carriage made of iron bars and were taken away.

'How could they do such a thing...'

Duke Carnegie had come to the Principality of Zohan to inspect the battlefield and express words of appreciation to the military officers. By coincidence, he had stumbled upon this scene. As he looked around at the men, elders, and children left behind in the square, his gaze settled on Carim, a young child clinging to a beast-man who appeared to be his father. He thought, So young, and already... Just then—

ROOOOOOOAAAAARR!!!!

From the sky, Thestanian wyvern knights descended to the ground. Duke Carnegie called out to his escort soldier.

"Hey, hey! What are they planning to do now?"

"That? You want to watch!? It's pretty entertaining!"

Duke Carnegie had a bad feeling—and it was spot on. The wyverns began to devour the men, elders, and children left in the square, tearing into them.

"What!? How could they do such a thing!?"

The victims screamed and tried to flee, but the Thestanian army surrounded them with spears and bows, blocking any escape. One by one, they were eaten alive.

"Aaaahh!!"

"H-help...! Gah!!"

"Nooo! Please, no!!"

"Mommy! Mo—" CRUNCH!!

It was a scene straight out of hell... thought Duke Carnegie. He also saw some of the Thestanian soldiers watching the massacre, cackling uproariously as the victims were devoured.
