"How much does Japan know about the Second World?"
Sirius' words caused a stir in the room.
While the great powers and the semi-major powers were somewhat informed, the existence of the "Second World" itself was largely unknown to the other nations.
"What is he talking about?"
"Second...? It's as if he's implying there's another world entirely different from this one."
"Ridiculous! That's impossible."
Some expressed genuine curiosity, while others dismissed it mockingly. However, as they observed the serious expressions of Sirius from the Hardique Empire, Azumi from Japan, and the representatives of the other great and semi-major powers, they began to feel that this might indeed be true.
"...C-Could it really be... that such a country exists?"
The crowd held their breath. The room, which had been buzzing with murmurs moments before, fell into complete silence. It was Azumi who broke that silence first.
"I assume your expectations are more or less correct. We've heard a little from Mr. Neyham. That the Second World exists beyond the Wall of Mist, and that the Republic of Lemuria governs the majority of it... that's about the extent of it, I suppose."
Sirius nodded slowly.
"I see... Well, that's less than I anticipated. By the way, Mr. Azumi, our country has a proposal to make."
"What is it?"
"Would you be interested in confirming the reality of the Second World for yourselves?"
"........."
While Azumi remained silent, Sirius continued.
"We possess the means to pass through the Wall of Mist. What do you think? If we formed an expedition, led by an elite unit from our country and a research team from Japan, to explore the Second World?"
Azumi quietly closed his eyes. Sirius silently prayed that Azumi would accept the proposal and continued speaking.
"Nothing can be truly understood or advanced without experiencing it firsthand."
Finally, Azumi spoke.
"From what Mr. Neyham has described... I can't say I have a clear idea of what kind of place it is. In a way, sending a team might be a viable option."
"Then—"
"That being said, we cannot so easily dispatch a team to an unknown land. While I don't hold command authority over the Self-Defense Forces, this isn't a matter that can be agreed upon lightly."
"So, are you refusing!?"
"I didn't say that. However, this proposal is far too significant for me to decide on my own. I apologize, but I must return to my homeland and discuss this matter with the officials first."
Azumi bowed his head quietly. Sirius, in turn, gave a slight bow as if to acknowledge his response.
The back-and-forth between the two caused some confusion for the chairman, but after confirming the matter was settled, he moved the discussion forward.
"A-ahem... Well then, let us consider that topic deferred for another day. Moving on to the next agenda item, which, in some ways, is the main reason many countries have gathered here today."
