A ryokan in Tokyo, Japan

Two men sat facing each other in a room of the inn.

One was Hirose, the Prime Minister of Japan.

The other was Ichirō Tanaka, the leader of the Kurohabaki Clan, a covert organization operating under the direct control of the Japanese government since the postwar period.

The two men were engaged in a serious conversation. During their exchange, Hirose received an astonishing report from Tanaka, causing him to lean forward instinctively and press for confirmation.

"...Are you seriously telling me this?"

"Yes, this is from Betsuhan. It's unlikely they would provide false information."

Tanaka's tone remained composed, unfazed by Hirose's reaction. His calm demeanor, honed through years in the country's covert organization, once again earned Hirose's admiration, even as he tried to emulate his counterpart by calming himself. The quick mental adjustment demonstrated by Hirose was a testament to his own experience as a former leader in an intelligence organization.

Secret meetings between Japan's top official and its government's covert operatives had become more frequent of late. The meeting locations were regularly changed to prevent potential sabotage by foreign agents.

"Alright. Then tell them, to not push themselves too hard, okey?"

"Understood."

After delivering the usual lighthearted message, Hirose slowly sipped his tea. Bowing deeply, Tanaka disappeared through the sliding doors at the back of the room.

The only sound that broke the silence afterward was that of Hirose, left alone, sipping his tea.

'Even Betsuhan finds it challenging to infiltrate Lemuria. If their report is accurate, the country's espionage units could rival Russia's GRU—possibly even surpass them. Still, I suppose it's a win to have obtained even the bare minimum of intel.'

Stretching his arms high above his head, Hirose stood up. Then, with a loud thud, he flopped backward onto the floor, letting his inner thoughts spill out.

"Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! This country is such a pain in the ass!"

A month later, three of the world's major powers—the Great Valkian Empire, the Sahenantis Empire, and the Demi-Human Nations Federation—urgently requested a summit with Japan.

The topic? Representatives from the heretic states that had narrowly escaped from the Second World.

No one at the time could have predicted how significantly this would alter Japan's destiny.

Covenant Military Base's capital outskirts, Lemurian Empire 11th Territory

Dawn.

The sun had yet to rise, and faint morning mist drifted along the ground.

Yet the base was more turbulent than ever. The sky, which should be faintly bright, was obscured by an overwhelming number of enormous shadows, casting the ground into darkness. The sound of countless footsteps echoed. The synchronized march of soldiers in military boots reverberated across the area.
