Na-Rae: (pleading) “He has a name! He has a past! Just because you don’t know it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Please, Father, give him a chance to prove himself.”
The King stopped, turning to face her, his eyes cold and stern.
King: “Prove himself? How? By sweet-talking his way into your heart while hiding his true intentions? No, Na-Rae. I will not gamble with your safety or the dignity of this family.”
Na-Rae’s tears began to fall, her voice cracking.
Na-Rae: “He’s not hiding anything! He’s endured so much because of me, because of us. He doesn’t deserve this cruelty.”
The King’s gaze softened briefly before his voice turned sharp again.
King: “You are young, my daughter. You see only what he wants you to see. My duty is to protect you from those who would harm you, even if you cannot see the danger yourself.”
Na-Rae: (firmly) “Then let me be the one to decide if he is dangerous. Let me speak with him, let me understand his truth.”
The King sighed, his tone quiet but unyielding.
King: “You are my daughter, Na-Rae. I will always protect you, even from your own choices. This conversation is over. Leave now.”
Na-Rae’s shoulders slumped, but she refused to back down completely.
Na-Rae: (softly) “You may think you’re protecting me, Father, but what you’re doing is tearing me apart. Please… think about what I’ve said.”
The King didn’t respond, turning away to look out the window again. Na-Rae wiped her tears and bowed, leaving the room with a heavy heart, determined to find another way to save the man she loved.
Na-Rae had barely left her father’s chambers when a quiet, uneasy tension began to settle over her. She knew that the King was not one to act impulsively, and she feared that his next move would be far more dangerous than she could anticipate.
Meanwhile, Taehyung sat alone in the dungeon, his mind racing. The stone walls felt like they were closing in on him, but his resolve was unwavering. He knew that Na-Rae was fighting for him, trying to change her father's mind, but he couldn’t help but wonder what her father would do next.
The flickering light from the torch in the corner of the dungeon cast long shadows, and the air was thick with tension. He had no idea when, or if, Na-Rae would be able to get through to her father. But he was certain of one thing: he couldn’t let her down. Not now, not ever.
As Taehyung leaned back against the cold stone wall, he heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching. His pulse quickened as he straightened, trying to prepare himself for whatever was coming next.
The next day, Taehyung was locked in a small, cold cell, his thoughts consumed by Na-Rae. He had no idea what the King had planned for him, but he knew it was going to be dangerous. He wasn’t just fighting for his life—he was fighting for Na-Rae’s future, for the chance to prove to her father that he was worthy of her trust.
Back in the palace, Na-Rae paced restlessly, unable to calm her nerves. She hadn’t heard from Taehyung, and her father had refused to see her. The silence between them was unbearable, but she knew her father’s decision would soon come to a head.
Then, unexpectedly, the door to her chambers burst open, and a familiar figure stepped inside—one of the King’s closest advisors. Advisor: "Princess Na-Rae, the King demands your presence in the council room immediately."
Na-Rae’s heart raced. The King’s face was unreadable as he stood before her, his voice stern.
King: "Na-Rae, you’ve been persistent in your efforts to convince me of his worth. Now, you will see for yourself how far he’s willing to go."
Na-Rae: (confused) "What do you mean, Father?"
King: "I will test him in a way that will reveal his true nature. He’s in the dungeon now, preparing for what will determine if he deserves your trust."
Na-Rae’s chest tightened, the air in the room thick with dread.
King: "If he proves himself, I will allow you to be with him. If he fails... you will be forbidden from ever seeing him again."
Na-Rae: (desperately) "Father, please don’t do this! He’s not who you think he is. He’s been nothing but loyal to me, to us!"
The King’s gaze softened, but only slightly.
King: "Loyalty is one thing, Na-Rae. But in the world I live in, loyalty can easily be feigned. Trust must be earned, and only through action, not words, can it be truly proven."
Na-Rae stepped forward, pleading with her father.
Na-Rae: (urgently) "Please, Father, don’t make him go through this. You’re putting his life at risk!"
King: (coldly) "If his life is the price of his loyalty, then so be it. But you will have no say in the matter, Na-Rae. This is my decision."
Na-Rae’s eyes welled with tears, but she had no choice but to comply. She could only pray that Taehyung would survive whatever the King had planned for him.
