Moiraineand Siuan have a terrible argument, and it doesn't end well.

Moiraine couldn't believe it. For months, she had hoped to touch Saidar again, and now... the entrance to the Waygate shimmered before her, and Moiraine couldn't stop grinning. She had done it. She was back!

Suddenly, she heard Rand grunting beside her and felt the familiar tingle of Saidar being used by another channeler.

Siuan rushed to the scene, and Moiraine realized her lover had placed a shield on Rand again. Blood and ashes! They had been so close to escaping Cairhien. How had Siuan found them?

Before the Aes Sedai could talk to her lover, her Warder shielded her from the Amyrlin by stepping before her. "Stop!" His attempt was sweet but useless. Siuan lifted her hand, and a strong wind let the Malkieri fly through the air. "No!"

Although the bond was still masked, Moiraine winced when she heard Lan's body connecting with the stone wall and even thought she could feel his pain for a second. Then it was gone, and Lan lay motionless on the ground.

Rage pulsed through Moiraine's veins, and her first instinct was to run to the Malkieri to check on him, but her feet refused to move. Siuan had hurt Lan. Yes, they disobeyed her and helped the Dragon escape from prison, but hurting Lan? The man hadn't been a threat to her. He had simply tried to protect Moiraine.

"Close the Waygate, Moiraine. Now."

Siuan must have seen the anger in her lover's eyes because there was no kindness in her voice. This wasn't Siuan Sanche talking. Before Moiraine stood the Amyrlin Seat, giving her an order.

The order wasn't helping to calm the Cairhien woman. She wanted to confront the Tairen woman. Light, her feet already started to move, closing the distance! But then, the Cairhien woman remembered the shielded Rand beside her and stopped.

Right now, she was the only person standing between the Dragon and the angry Amyrlin. If she left her spot, Rand would be without any protection. Who knew what Siuan would do once the Dragon was under her control again.

Because I know that protecting Rand, guiding him, that is the only thing that matters. More than me, more than you. More than anything.

Her own words rang in Moiraine's ears. No, she couldn't get closer to Siuan, nor could she check on Lan. Today, her lover had proven that they weren't on the same side anymore. Moiraine didn't know when, but somehow, she had lost Siuan on the way to finding Rand again. When did the Tairen woman decide to change the course of their plan?

"You lied to me about being stilled."

For a moment, the woman of the Blue Ajah was speechless. The Amyrlin knew very well she couldn't lie. Why was she accusing Moiraine of lying to her? Only a sister of the Black Ajah was able to lie. Surely, Siuan didn't suspect her to be...

The mere thought of Siuan actually believing Moiraine had turned to the dark shocked the Cairhien woman more than she wanted to admit. Her rage faded and was replaced by disbelief. "No. I cannot." Carefully, she took two steps forward. "I've been more truthful with you than anyone else." Siuan had to believe her. She simply had to.

"We failed, Moiraine." Sadly, the Amyrlin's tone didn't sound like she was easy to convince. Siuan was pissed. "At the Eye of the World, you failed."

The words were like a slap to the face, letting Moiraine step back. She failed? She FAILED?! The Cairhien woman had been on the road for twenty years, searching the land for the prophesized Dragon Reborn. She had been in countless fights, collecting scars along the way and getting insulted, but not once had she stopped. No matter how hard things had gotten. No matter how much she had missed being with Siuan, wishing to go back to the White Tower. Every time, the Aes Sedai had pushed her wishes aside and had continued with the mission. Finding the Dragon before the dark did. And now, she had failed?!
