Lan wants to know more about Rhuidean.

Moiraine's entire body ached when she woke in the morning. She was snuggled against Lan, who had wrapped his arms around her. His breathing was calm, and his chest was rising and falling in a slow rhythm.

The Cairhien woman didn't dare to move. Her Warder could feel the tiniest change in her posture. He would be awake in an instant if she dared to move. It was a miracle that he wasn't awake already.

Or perhaps he was still tired from waiting for her return. Moiraine was still not sure how much sleep he had gotten during her absence. She felt his exhaustion, even though he was sleeping. He definitely needed more sleep.

A'Lan Mandragoran. I release you from your bond.

Tears burned in Moiraine's eyes. Quickly, she closed her eyes and placed her forehead against his. Soon, she would say those bloody words, losing one of the people she loved the most. How much time did she have left with him? Months? Weeks? Days?

"What is it?" Lan's voice sounded tired.

Of course, he had felt her sadness through the bond. Was there anything the man didn't notice? Light! She had wanted to give him more sleep!

"Moiraine."

Lan wouldn't stop asking. He had already given her a break last night. Today, he wouldn't stay silent.

"I need fresh air."

Moiraine placed one hand on Lan's chest and tried to push him away, but the man's grip on her tightened.

"Please," he whispered. "Don't run from me."

Blood and ashes! He sounded so sad! He knew she had tried to run from him. The Aes Sedai was torn between leaving and staying, but her fingers grabbed Lan's tunic to hold him close to her. Her heart and body didn't want to leave him.

"We're in this together. Remember?"

Together. How should she tell him that they were meant to go separate ways at some point? That she had to-

Moiraine took a deep breath. One step at a time. She couldn't tell Lan about everything that had happened in Rhuidean. But perhaps she could calm him by giving him something.

"It's... everything is..."

She couldn't finish the sentence. A thousand images appeared before her eyes. Possible futures she knew would never come true, yet they appeared no matter how much she tried to ignore them.

"Breathe."

The uncrowned king of Malkier rubbed soothing circles on her back. It didn't help against the images, but at least, she had something to focus on – something that distracted her before she got drowned by those possible future scenarios.

"How about we just lie here while you try to sort your thoughts?"

A smile appeared on Moiraine's lips. Sorting her thoughts. It would probably take years to sort everything she had seen. But it was a sweet attempt.

Instead of an answer, the Cairhien woman placed her hand on Lan's chest and gave him a small push to let him know she wanted him to release her.

Lan sighed heavily, but let go of her. "Fine." He tried his best to hide it, but Moiraine could hear the anger in his voice. The Malkieri misunderstood her. "I'll give you some room." He pushed himself into a sitting position.

Quickly, the Aes Sedai grabbed her Warder's arm before he could storm out of the tent. Lan's confusion was visible, but he didn't try to free himself. Moiraine took it as a good sign, then pulled at his arm.
