Moiraine is frustrated, trying to figure out how to gain Rand's trust.

Lan and Rand ended their training when Aviendha's rabbit was done and ready to be eaten. The Malkieri went to the stream to refill his and Rand's waterskin while the Dragon Reborn returned to his bedroll. Egwene handed over some fruits that they had still left.

Slowly, they were running out of food. In a few days, they would only be able to live from the meat of animals. Moiraine wasn't looking forward to it. The Aiel Waste didn't have farmers who could sell them some fruits. It was a desert.

As always, they ate in silence. Aviendha threw a few disgusted glances at Rand, but otherwise, she didn't speak to him. Rand pretended not to notice the looks, keeping his eyes locked on his plate.

At the same time, Moiraine noticed that Lan was trying to make eye contact with her, but refused to look at him. She knew he wished to talk to her, but they didn't have the luxury of having their own room to themselves. So, she ignored his attempts.

The sun quickly descended, taking the warmth with her. It was surprising how cold the nights could become in an area where the days were burning them. Moiraine was thankful that Aes Sedai knew how to ignore heat and cold. This way, she didn't have to freeze like the two Emond's Fielders.

When the sun was almost gone, the Cairhien woman got to her feet and left the campfire. She didn't wish to sit with the kids. Her thoughts were a mess, and she needed to think. So, she decided to use one of those big rocks nearby. This way, she was still close enough to help them should anything happen, but was still having a chance to think without getting disturbed.

The Car'a'carn shall spill out the blood of those who call themselves Aiel as water on sand, and break them as dried twigs. Yet the remnant of a remnant the Car'a'carn shall save, and they shall live.

For twenty years, Moiraine had studied the Karaethon Cycle. She had read everything about the Dragon Reborn that she could find. But never had she thought that the Aiel would have their own prophecy about the Dragon Reborn.

Why should Rand destroy the Aiel? Yes, he had always looked like an Aiel, but he had been raised in the Two Rivers. Even if Tam al'Thor wasn't Rand's father, it didn't change anything. The boy had no connections to the Aiel. He didn't know them or their traditions. He wasn't one of them. Why should the Aiel worry that he would destroy them?

Yet the remnant of a remnant the Car'a'carn shall save, and they shall live.

Was it so simple for the Aiel? How could they accept that their Car'a'carn would kill some of them, not knowing who would be part of that group he would save?

Your Wetland prophecies are all so clean – so easy. Your Dragon will either save the world or destroy it.

Had Moiraine thought about it all wrong? Was that the Dragon's true purpose? Would he destroy the world, so he could save it? Could that be the solution? What if Rand had to change things to win against the Dark One?

The Karaethon Cycle had never mentioned the Aiel. But could they be the answer? Was Rand on the right path? Or was it a mistake to go into the Waste, trying to find out if Rand was that mysterious Car'a'carn and turning the Aiel into his army?

Cursing inwardly, Moiraine started to play with her ring. She needed to know more about what the Car'a'carn was to the Aiel. Aviendha wasn't willing to give her more than what she had already said. Moiraine wondered if the Aiel woman was holding back information on purpose or if she didn't know more. Was it possible those women had crossed the Spine of the World not knowing the whole truth about their 'savior', searching for a man they didn't know?
